The Half Crown, Benfleet

I remembered this pub when it was called the Crown ( until a tanker ploughed into it one night... hence the 're-formed name' )... not bad pub... a few Canvey chavs drink there now... ( still prefer the Hoy though.. )..

White Hart, Thundersley

Type of pub that makes you wish you were on a 'pub crawl'.. to a better one !!

Hoy & Helmet, South Benfleet

Known this pub for over 40 years..Great pub, great beer... what else can you say ??

The Anchor Inn, South Benfleet

A proper pub... a few bad choices of decor over the years, but still retained it's roots as a 'drinking establishment'..

The Woodmans Arms, Benfleet

Drinks very expensive... charged around 3.70p for a pint of Guinness... food looks good ( though never eaten there ).... nice, clean and newly decorated...enjoy it 'YOU'RE PAYING FOR IT BIG TIME !'.. most of pub taken up with dining tables ( should be re- classified as a Restaurant ! )

Wagon & Horses, Hadleigh

Agree with previous comments "they paved paradise and put up a parking lot"... ( this actually happened to the 'Queens Hotel / Westcliff'... many years ago ).. by the way... the 'old peoples' apartments are horrendously priced... hope the whole thing in this 'credit crunch' goes 'flat on it's back' for the investors... greedy people !!

The Castle, Hadleigh

bit of a 'middle class pub'... no real 'yuppies' or down 'n outs... just a lot of
' done well for myself on the property market types' and retired couples.. food good value ( especially if you've got a large family...Sunday meals good )... but sting you on the drinks ( apart for Monday nights apparently ).. a few real ales... nothing to write home about..

Eager Poet, Milton Keynes

This is one of the few pubs that I need to go to ALREADY DRUNK !' ( as everyone else there seems to be ).. don't go there if you're after the 'quiet oldie worldly' atmosphere... it you like Irish folk music ( loud ) and the occasional public arguments and fights.. this is the pub for you ! ( I can also recommend the Pizzas !').. i like to experience all sides of life !...'top of the mornin' to ya'...!!

The Crown, Stony Stratford

First place of call in Stony for pub food... it 'is' very much 'gastro pub'... but they still pull a good pint there no matter what you say...if you're looking for 'oldie worldy' atmosphere, suggest you go to Vaults bar ( who incidentally are now doing good food themselves, without giving up their identity )..

Plough, Stony Stratford

I've got to admit... there is a 'chav' element that frequent there...it's a Charley Wells pub as well... so if you're not into Bombadier or 'Red Stripe' forget it...food not bad...Oh...and the drinks are possibly the most expensive in Stony...

The Cock Hotel, Stony Stratford

Friendly sort of place... nice helpful staff and not a bad pint ( Abbot Ale etc.. )... food good..what more can you say ?...sort of place you'd stop off to en route to somewhere else.. ( unless the sun's out and you can sit outside in the old courtyard )..p.s..If you order a breakfast.. they'll keep topping up your coffee for free..

The Old George, Stony Stratford

I must admit, I do'nt drink there regularly, but when I went in there the other week, I found the atmosphere quite pleasing... beer not great, but was served promptly and with a smile from Landlord ( or was that the alchole kicking in ?... anyway I thought all Landlords drank ?... is'nt that meant to be a basic requirement when running a pub ? ). The first time I visited this pub was in May last year...it was a Thursday night and there was NOBODY in there except myself, a few friends and a barmaid who was sitting on a stool on the customer side of bar, reading a paper. She seemed to be most upset that she had to put her paper down, go round the 'working side' of bar and get our drinks... Once we were ( begrudgingly)served our drinks, she wandered back to her stool and carried on reading her paper...After about 20 mins, one of my friends said a swear word within a conversation we were having ( not a really bad one and not loud ).. the 'pseudo barmaid' turned round and berated my friend to the point that we felt we had to leave... she then carried on reading her paper. I hope they we'rnt paying her for this.....

I agree...'nice pub, shame about the landlord'..

The Fox and Hounds, Stony Stratford

Bring Back Ken... Ken's the man !!...when 'he' ran the pub, there was great ale ( Frog Island being my favorite ), a full and friendly crowd of loyal locals AND fantastic bands...All of which Ken was responsible for... BRING BACK KEN !!..

The Vaults Bar, Stony Stratford

Fantastic Pub...kept to it's roots. No converted 'bistro' / 'wine bar' nonsense here...If it ain't broke do'nt fix it ( shame about the Fox & Hounds )..best pint of Broadside in Stony... It's Under new management and going strong.. Still ca'nt get rid of the 'crusty's' at the Sunday morning 'Folk meet' though.. There is 'one' guy that's worth listening to though... he plays a zither ( I think that's what they call it )... real class act !!.. Have a pint, listen to the zither player, then go before somone else starts singing obscure songs about the Napoleonic wars or dead animals..

The Cannon, Newport Pagnell

I've just had a night out at this pub.... normally it's quite friendly..Adam ( the landlord ) however, took exception to me asking to sample one of his ales before I bought it ( this was at the barman's request that I 'try before I buy )... Adam accused me of being a 'free loader'... I am not normally a beer drinker.. in fact, if the landlord had done his homework on me at all... I was mostly responsable for working my way through his malts on a good night ( 'without' tasting them beforehand ) ..as a regular Sunday night drinker, I must have spent a good few hundred quid there on scotch... but not anymore...he might have all the 'traditional trappings' of a friendly pub... but if the loud mouthed Landlord do'nt like ya'... your history... I think I'll just wait until there's new management there before I go there again... hopefully that wo'nt be too long....
