The Ship and Shovell, Charing Cross

Interesting bar with good service and well-kept ale, but the crowds are overwhelming most weekdays starting late afternoon through the evening. Well worth a visit anyway.

The Round Table, Leicester Square

Bad service. The bartender was rude in his semi-english attempts to make me understand that ALL ales were out and I would have to order one of the lagers. Although it was not crowded, service was very slow as well. Hopefully this was an exception to the usual experience there.

The White Horse, Parsons Green

As a beer lover, this pub was specifically recommended to me by other American friends who have visited London frequently. I went there with high expectations, and they were exceeded. Great selection of both English Ales and other continental lagers. Very helpful bartender who took a genuine interest in our selections. The locals and Londoners who were there were truly the friendliest we encountered during our visit. Highly recommended.

The Coal Hole, Strand

Great atmosphere, festive crowds, good ale, but frequently too crowded to relax.

The Cove, Covent Garden

Neat setup and nice if you can get a seat on the balcony, but they were out of every ale except Guinness when we were there.

The Coach and Horses, Kew

Went there with a friend while the wives were visiting the Gardens. Friendly, relaxed, comfortable, many locals stopping for a pint with their dogs in tow. Later, our spouses and children arrived and we had one of the best pub meals we've enjoyed.
