The Chequers Inn, Goudhurst

Closed in 2011. After several months empty has reopened as The Goudhurst Inn, which calls itself a "gastropub".

The Vineyard, Lamberhurst

We've driven past this pub a thousand times and thought it looked delightful, but never had occasion to call in. Finally arranged a meal with friends there and enjoyed good food and Harveys Sussex (and a lively & entertaining pub quiz) but guess what it's changing hands in a few days' time! So not a lot of point in writing a detailed description of our evening! Apparently the new people are French so look out for some big changes at The Swan.

Bell Inn, Shepherdswell

Found this pub by chance on Sunday. Was made very welcome and enjoyed an excellent Sunday lunch, served with a smile by two very lovely young ladies.

The Boslowick Arms, Boslowick

Found this pub by chance while out lookng for somewhere different to eat in Falmouth, and was very pleasantly surprised. The decor was amazing ornate plaster ceilings and wood-panelled walls looks like it was once a stately home! The staff were very friendly and only too happy to chat to a couple of passing tourists. The beer was good and the menu very tempting though in the end we settled for the Meal Deal, which was two decent main courses for 10. Very happy to recommend this place!

The Castle Inn, Little Birch

Reported to be open again have yet to see how it's doing, but we wish it well!

The George and Dragon, Headcorn

Enjoyed an excellent meal this evening. It was served pretty quickly, was piping hot and very tasty an unusual way of serving the veg which was appreciated. Not overpriced by today's standards though I was staggered at the cost of a pint; mind you I don't get out much these days so maybe that's the going rate... Very friendly staff who were happy to stop and chat.

The White Lion, Tenterden

We keep going back to to The White Lion it's such a civilised place. There's always a good choice of beers on draught, and we've never had cause for complaint about the food. Last week we took advantage of the two meals for 10 offer and really enjoyed our lunch. It can get busy, especially when the weather's nice it seems busloads of people descend on Tenterden when the sun comes out but we've always found the service to be pretty slick even when under pressure.

The Vine Inn, Tenterden

A clean but somehow soulless pub. Fairly good menu but the food was unexciting; reasonably priced though. Staff very friendly.

The Three Chimneys, Biddenden

Only a quick visit while out for a walk in the snow on Boxing Day. A cheerful, friendly pub that looks like it hasn't changed much in decades (especially the public bar). I liked the row of beer barrels behind the bar. A nice touch was the plates of piping hot roast potatoes that were brought out for customers to enjoy. Will definitely return in the summer looks like a nice garden out the back.

The Green Cross Inn, Goudhurst

Not really a pub to my mind, more a restaurant set in a bar. Most expensive pint of Harveys I've ever bought (3.30) but then I haven't been up to town for a while, London folk are probably used to such extortion. Don't visit this place if you aren't keen on fish there were only a handful of non-fish items on the menu but for seafood lovers I think this must be heaven. "Best crab this side of Padstow... Best bouillabaisse this side of Marseille"!

The Red Lion, Biddenden

Enjoyed the beer, food was good and reasonably priced (great selection of dishes to choose from) and the staff were friendly. Nice open fire on a bitterly cold evening. Bob the landlord seemed very pleasant;he saw that we were new faces and stopped twice for a chat. We felt very welcome and will be going back hope we don't experience any of the unpleasantness outlined in earlier comments!

The Rose and Crown, Fletching

Great food big helpings and delicious grub and a great atmosphere. Excellent ales on draught. A very nice pub, well looked after by Adrian, the friendly and highly experienced landlord.

The Tump Inn, Wormelow

Someone please get this entry changed. It's The TUMP Inn!

Cottage of Content, Carey

Gorgeous traditional country pub with flagstone floors, wooden beams etc. Friendly people too. The Butty Bach was excellent, but I got the impression they had cut back on the depth and range of the food menu since I was last here a year ago.

Plough Inn, Little Dewchurch

Friendly village pub, commfortable, old fashioned in a nice way. Good food available. Folk music once a month is good.

The Castle Inn, Little Birch

The Castle changed hands this year but maintains its friendly atmosphere. With a completely different style of bar to what you expect in a remote rural location, this is definitely not your usual village pub. It used to often feel chilly in there but it's a lot warmer now that the new wood-burner is working! The Otter bitter is always good and there are usually a couple of other real ales on in addition to ciders etc.

The food menu has been expanded and every dish I have sampled has been wonderful (I've tried most of 'em). Some friends of mine were disappointed once though I guess there can always be an off night!

The Looking Glass, Leicester

Was rather underimpressed. Crowded, uncomfortable, found a perch eventually downstairs but it was claustrophobic. Kept getting jostled which really pisses me off. Enormous range of spirits which could have kept me amused all night, but not cheap. Soon moved on to more congenial quarters in the city.

The Rutland and Derby, Leicester

Had a great night out at the Rutland on Saturday. The staff were friendly and helpful despite being obviously very busy (there were enough of them to cope, which made a change). The customers too were friendly and ready to chat, something you can't say of all pubs in Leicester. It was packed but noty uncomfortable. My son (recently graduated) and I sampled a selection of the large quantity of whiskies on offer interspersed with lagers (huge range). Also enjoyed some excellent pork scratchings. Spent a fortune but it doesn't happen every week - and I don't get out much these days...

The Bell Inn, Iden

Found this delightful pub quite by chance last weekend. A warm welcome and a choice of three real ales. Had a great Sunday lunch it was hard to choose from the wonderful looking menu and my wife tells me the dessert was delicious too (I was too full to indulge!)

Food to die for.
