The Bridge House, Paddington

Mixed feelings about the Bridge House. Popped in at 4pm on a Sunday. Great location and good atmosphere. Ale well kept & served. Food also good, although several menu options weren't available - veggie platter? How difficult can it be? Went again on a Friday night. Oh dear. 2 of our 4 managed to get their food within an hour, chips missing from one meal. After a further half an hour had to cancel the other 2 meals. Was rudely told by the barman that he was serving food (to some lucky punter) and I was to go and wait down by the till. Asked for the manager who never appeared and eventually got refund. Went on to the Warrington which was a different story altogether. Friendly, efficient staff - bar menu served within 10 minutes. Until the Bridge House sort out their staff & kitchen problems I'll go to the Warrington instead.

Bull, Ditchling

After a long walk on the Downs I was looking forward to a good lunch & a pint in the great outside space this pub has. The pint was ok, Timothy Taylors. Good temperature and taste.
As for the food, my veggie companions had whole Camambert oven-cooked in it's box with a tomato/apricot salsa and ciabatta. They said it was great but could do with a bit more bread. And at 8.50 was quite reasonable.
I ordered saddle of lamb with stuffing, roast potatoes and vegetables. The 'saddle' was actually 2 thin slices and the whole meal was lukewarm. For 12.50 I'd expected better. Banoffee pie was great and gooey, however another dessert (I forget the name) was advertised with a biscuit but they'd run out. This wasn't mentioned when ordering.
Ok pub, but will try somewhere else for food next time.

The Gun, Coldharbour

Tried to book table on terrace. Was told they don't do that on the weekend. Got there to find tables reserved. Grrr.
Went for Sunday lunch. Ordered lamb. Was given beef with horseradish. When I pointed this out I was told rudely 'That's lamb'.
I've heard from too many people now about the dreadful attitude & service. What a shame.
Go to the Prospect of Whitby in Wapping instead. Great views, good beer, good service.

Thatched House, Hammersmith

Simply the best for great food and beer. Roast lamb on a Sunday would feed two! Love it!

The St Johns Tavern, Archway

Probably the worst service I've ever received. Having booked our table for 10 for our Christmas meal for 3.30pm on Saturday we were tersely told on arrival that our order had to be submitted before 4 as the kitchen was closing. This wasn't mentioned when booking. Some of our party were a bit late due to public transport and were rushed to choose starters and mains, many of which had run out. We'd hardly pulled the crackers we'd brought before they were rudely cleared from the table, they took away our wine glasses while some were still eating/drinking and to top it all after only an hour and a half we were asked to leave the dining room and move into the bar so they could set up for the evening. There was no eye contact from the staff, they just stared at the table to see what else they could clear away. It was a real shame because the food was really good but there are much better places to spend my hard earned cash and I urge others to do likewise.

The Hop and Berry, Islington

Thinking of going here for a nice meal? Think again.

Went for Sunday lunch yesterday and ordered roast lamb. When it arrived it was 3 small pieces of lamb on some green beans - no other veg or even potatoes were included in the 13.50. When I mentioned my surprise at this to the waitress I was told to 'order some sides' and 'that's how it appears in the menu - what more do you want us to do?' to which I replied 'I want you to fetch the manager' - a request which sadly was ignored.

It would also have been more pleasant if they took the time to clean their beer pipes properly as there was a terrible case of barfly.

I urge you to not go here.
