Visited The Acorn today for the first time. Maybe a bit harsh posting a review after only one visit, but it was terrible. The Guinness was good, should've left it at that with hindsight. I was very hungry so I ordered a burger & chips, how can you get that wrong? The chips were fine but the burger itself was dire, it could not have been more shriveled, dry or granite like.
I could've complained (& should've) but time was against me & I felt sure I would've been offered a free meal or vouchers, neither of which I fancied, when all I wanted was a decent burger in the first place. What annoys me the most is that a "kitchen proffesional" saw fit to serve the thing. It had probably spent more time in the poxy kitchen as most of the staff.
I know this sort of a review is not what Beer In The Evening is really about but I doubt you'd find The Acorn on, say, the Michelin star restaurant guide.

Had a meal here a few months back now, all in all very average. It's definitely a McPub. Uninspiring.

Five of us went there last night for a birthday meal, it was fantastic. I had a rump steak, probably the best steak I have ever had, lovely and tender. The young waitress was extremely polite and attentive, a great asset to the business. A very relaxing environment.

Forgot to mention, it's still "near Queens Park" so if that's a problem you should maybe avoid the place. However if you're not bigoted you could do alot worse than getting down there and broadening your horizons.

Now open. Friendly staff and a good selection of Polish lagers.

How this pub has a user rating this low (currently 4.8) I don't know. It's one of the nicest environments to be in in the town centre, well, a short stroll over the town bridge anyway. The food is consistantly good and the staff very friendly. I have spent many fri/sat/sun. nights there and have never seen "300 students" just a good crowd of people having a good time. The clientele are mainly in their late twentys and upwards, this may explain the relaxed atmosphere. You could do a hell of alot worse than visitng this place, and probably have!

Was the last of the Queens Park pubs to close it's doors. It's a great purpose built place and it'd be a crying shame to see it "re developed into an exciting new apartment complex"

The Mill is the only real pub anywhere near the High street. It doesn't have theme evenings ie karaoke or quiz nights, just people, mainly men, who want a drink. Expensive trainers and ghetto speak don't cut it here.

I've visited this pub on a good few occasions. The beer is good but the food is fantastic, good sized portions AND great quality. Think of this place if you want a good feed and you'll soon wonder why anyone goes to a Beefeater or the like.

The Bankers is by far a better place than its (distant) relative The Pilgrims, the service is quicker, the food better, and the environment nicer. Not high praise, I know, but if you want classy you don't go to McDonalds do you? Be warned though, a small group of us ordered food and returned to our seats only to find that the moment our orders arrived 80% of the lights went out and it all went "disco." I suppose regulars are well aware though.

Decent REAL pub near the centre of Bedford, beers constantly changing and friendly, knowledgable staff. Well worth an evening out.
