The Old Hall Inn, Hope

Reading the comments that have been left since my original statement it seems that the Old Hall is worthy of a second visit. It makes a nice change to hear of a landlord making such a success of this old pub. I wish him well and will nip in when I get the chance. Well done.

The Shovels, Blackpool

Visited in October when their beer festival was on. A truly superb pub. The landlord has an intimate knowledge of breweries and their beers. Worth a visit but a bit of a bus ride.

Ploughman, Werrington

Now a thriving pub in the Werrington Centre. Usually three real ales on from independent brewers. Enthusiastic landlord who has a passion for real ale.

The Ostrich Inn, Peterborough

A very good refurb and now has a selection of ales on. Usually one from a local brewery and it has Just had a beer festival.

Super little pub. Excellent real ales now looked after by Peterborough Beer Festival cellarman. Pub has just received a Gold Award for beer quality and has now become Cambridgeshire pub of the year. Bus number Citi 1 from bus station.

The Coalheavers Arms, Peterborough

Excellent little pub near to the football ground. Beer festivals a couple of times a year usually with bit of live music. Next one in September. If you're visiting Peterborough it's a must.

The George Hotel, Castleton

Food excellent in this place. I had a rabbit pie which I hadn't had before and my associated teenagers went for the gammon steak which was huge. Enjoyed by all. Beer very good and waitresses efficient and friendly even if they did get the bill wrong! All rectified in the end as easy mistakes usually are. Worth a visit again.

Ye Olde Nags Head, Castleton

Just a short visit last weekend. Quick half of Black Sheep which was far too cold and lacked flavour. More of a hotel bar than anything else.

Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese Inn, Castleton

Visited over this last weekend (Sunday onwards). Pub fairly busy with wide choice of ales (although probably a bit on the cold side). Peak Ales on offer which were good. Obviously been refurbished in the last few years with more than its fair share of irrelevent 'tat' around the walls. Worth a look if just for the beers.

The Old Hall Inn, Hope

Short visit on Bank Holiday Monday. Place fairly busy but not packed. Several more customers turned up but went away after being told there was 40 minute delay for food. Beer was Theakston's Bitter which was average. Probably would't revisit.

The Rambler Country House, Edale

Visited Bank Holiday Monday for a swift half. Choice of 4 real ales, the one I had was excellent. There were two others from Oakham Brewery in Peterborough which looked a bit hazy. Quite a few were eating and they all seemed quite happy with it all. No complaints but this was just a very very short visit.

Ye Olde Bowling Green Inn, Bradwell

Visited the pub this Monday (Bank Holiday) and I'd just like to add a comment or two. I found the pub nicely busy with locals and visitors. There were 4 real ales on offer and I chose the Copper Dragon which was superb (followed by another fairly quickly!), there was a certain 'buzz' in the pub created by an enthusiastic group of regulars at the bar. I assume the landlord was among them as he kept popping behind the bar. I'd like to thank the landlord and the regulars who made me feel quite welcome and also the barmaid whose jokes kept the afternoon moving. Cheers to a super pub.
