The Coronet, Holloway

I was barred from here last year. For no reason. I complained to Wetherspoone Head office who told me there's nothing they can do because it's a local matter, and they have no jurisdiction over local pub manager's decisions. Since when has walking into a pub as a single female, being polite to everybody, ordering food and a pint of lager then sitting down and drinking quietly and reading a book been a barring offence. The only good Wetherspoon near there is White Swan, Higbhury and Isilngton.

The Pembury Tavern, Hackney

Enormous pub at the corner of Hackney Downs/Amhurst rd. Taken there by some Camra lads from work a few weeks ago. Good food. Loved their fishcakes, and one of our group had a huge meat pie with yummy pastry and veg I helped him finish. Mmmmmmm. People playing games like chess and draughts. Some people KNITTING - had to laugh but good on ya girl. Loved the pub in general, but best advice ladies is to come and go by taxi, and be safe and sound.

Oi Chav_Man that could have been me you were looking at and you'd have got a slap! Agree beer's cheap for the manor but not much of a winelist. Don't go if you are looking for a gastro-type meal. Staff 5/10 Atmos 5/10 beer 6/10 wine 3/10 food 2/10 (bar snax only) value 6/10

The Royal Oak, Borough

I'm new to beerintheevening, so this writeup is late in coming! Good pub for girlie nite out one friday last Sept. Fine wines, some of us had a beer called "Pale" with a blue/white badge on the pump handle. I loved the staf here, and scrumptious food (fishmonger's pie).
