A good second choice pub should your first choice be unexpectedly overrun by eejits. A couple of interesting ales plus one or two interesting lagers. Seating isn't too bad at all and the food at least smells very nice.

The Rye Pub, Dining Room and Garden, Peckham Rye

Easily one of the best pubs in this part of London. Friendly, warm - and that's just the decor. Best beer garden going here in the south-east. Not just a good local but worth a trip across town for for the food or the beer. Chips... v good.

Castle, Farringdon

What's happened to this place? On a recent Friday night it had been taken over by meat-market City lager-swillers. So much for the lack of pretention. Service has gone numb in the face of being packed out with some very ugly well-dressed customers. Great selection of ale, but so what?
