The Ealing Park Tavern, South Ealing
The food is good - but the minimalist open-plan style is cold and uncomfortable. The beer range is good and well-kept, but I liked this place before it went arty. It's okay to eat in but 'public house' it ain't.

Re: 'speccie27' - it's a busy pub, the food is excellent as is the beer - no wonder they are full on a Sunday? Don't take it personally, I doubt your looks came into it at all! Middle class? Not at all - just well-known locally. Make a reservation next time, it'll be worth it

Very nice Broadside at the weekend, but nothing else on tap. Not at all intimidating and 3/pint normal London prices.

The Flowers of the Forest, Borough
Good for sport, vast open-plan pub. I'm a single lady bitter drinker, and you'd think I was an alien. I wanted a pint, read the paper, watch the rugby - but I was watched most carefully...
I went to the Stage Door instead.

Snotty staff. Not at all welcoming (I'm a Londoner and a lot more local than the staff, but was treated like a foreign tourist). Couldn't think how saying 'a pint of bitter' needed to be translated! Totally empty on Saturdays.

This pub caters for the visitor trade (going to the Museum and at the hotel opposite) and is very expensive. The food is good but overpriced and a bit too fancy - although there aren't any real restaurants nearby so they're taking advantage of the market. Beer is also expensive. Nice to take visitors to, a nice atmosphere, but not really a 'local'.

Watched some of the rugby here on Saturday - the Saloon was empty and the Public full! (yes, there are two bars, old-style)
Not so much choice on the ale front but a reasonable Doombar.
ps agree about the White Hart, not the nicest

Recently closed awaiting a new buyer.
This used to be a super little village pub with good food and local ties.
Unfortunately the recent management didn't exploit the old place properly and after failing with Thai food - plus encouraging children with colouring and toys (not that we mind kids, it's just the parents didn't like the drinkers). The smoking ban shouldn't have made any difference, there is a covered garden section.
We have to say sadly that poor bar staff choices sent the serious real-ale crowd elsewhere.
