City Arms, Wells

Oh dear....

Who on gods earth trained the owner in customer service, because if her attitude is a reflection of the catering industry in general then no wonder pubs are shutting by the day.

Lets not beat about the bush, she's downright rude, downright offensive and downright ignorant.

I have NEVER in my entire life seen staff spoken to the way she speaks to her staff, be it bar staff, waiting staff, chefs whoever. She thinks its acceptable to bawl them out in front of customers.

Just who the hell does she think she is talking to her staff like that. Sure she pays the wages, but thats no reason or excuse to sit and insult and bully her staff the way she does.

Given her awful personality ( as shown by her actions with other customers ) then you would think she would value the staff, but oh no. The exchange with a customer highlighted on here is absolutely nothing compared to her little temper fits with the staff. According to a barmaid its quite common, and in fact one member of staff walked out recently when a plate was thrown at her head by this egotistical lunatic of a manager.

Lets not beat around the bush. There are better pubs in the area, and given the awful experience we had the other week when a member of staff was spoken to like she was the proverbial doggy doo doo on the sole of her shoe, we'll be taking our trade elsewhere, and recommending to everyone else to do the same.

No doubt she won't care because she's either too thick skinned ( or in my humble opinion just simply too thick ) to realise that actually by trying to belittle your staff you actually make yourself look very very stupid.

Avoid this pub because honestly, the woman running it is just the most obnoxious, rude and unpleasant person I've ever seen in charge of a licensed premises, and theres alot of competition out there but she's certainly got that title all to herself..

Vile woman.

The White Hart, Haverhill

Sadly this place reflects the town and the people in it.

Its tacky, cheap and nasty.

Haverhill doesn't have, and couldn't warrant a pub with any class because having sat in this place for about 20 minutes you soon realise why that is. No one in the town has any class.

The bar staff were rude, obnoxious and downright ignorant, and thats the good ones......

I spent 1 day in Haverhill, and trawled 4-5 pubs and in each and every one I found the place to be dirty, the beer awful and the staff more interested in either chatting somoene up or getting chatted up. Getting an aknowledgement off them is hard, getting some customer service is nigh on impossible.

This pub is, as mentioned a reflection of the Haverhill mentality. Full of young kids running around acting like wannabe gangsters with no concept of the fact they live in a pokey little town where a punch up in the high street is seen as major trouble... Take them little wannabes into a city like Manchester and they'd last all of 20 seconds.

This pub reflects the town and the people in it.

I wouildn't recommend this pub to an alcoholic with withdrawal symptons. Mind you having tried the beer, its about as close to paraffin as you are going to get.

I've given it a 1 mark. I struggled to find an actual reason for even giving it 1, but in the spirit of generosity I'll give it a mark for the fact that they at least do give you a sign telling you the way out.. Shame I hadn't spotted that as I walked in.

The Port n' Ale, Tipton

I would desperately like to argue against all the previous posters. Tell them they are lying and that they are wrong.

I cant.

Its been coming a long while, and being honest, its not one of the managers faults. Its the pilock who owns the place. He seems to have it in his head that he is doing us all a favour by being generous enough to run a pub in our area, and we should bow and scrape to him. The philosophy of the customer being king doesnt apply here. He says what goes, if you don't like it tough.. its how he runs the place and how dare you argue.

The pub has ran because of the good nature of the staff. Ian, Kevin, Jim, Ian.. all decent managers, but the owner treated them all like dirt. Paying them a pittance and expecting them to work every hour god sends. I once got shown a payslip from one of the owners, and when you worked it out, the poor bloke was working for 3.

More than one manager has been accused of stealing from the owner. Given the way he treats them, I would too. 3 an hour to work for that greedy ignorant tyrant.. Those that slag off the managers really should hear some of what they had to put up with. Phone calls at 1am in the morning telling them they are sacked, because the owner is so drunk. His wife threatening to hit members of staff. Rooting through their flat when the managers go on holiday and going through personal files...

Theres alot more that the managers have had to put up with than people are letting on here,...

The Olde White Rose, Bilston

I dread to think what the supposed hotel is going to be like if the state of his pub is anything to go by....

Rumour has it the rats have even left its so dirty.

The Port n' Ale, Tipton

In a climate where money is tight you would think whoever owns this place would have the common sense to keep prices down to attract customers. Not increase his beer prices for the 4th time in the space of a year.

The dearest pub in the area now by a long shot.

And the 2-4-1 meal offer is a rip off. All hes done is doubled the prices for average microwave meals you can get at any Wetherspoons for a fraction of the price..

I used to love this place, but not anymore. Just too expensive and the owner gets greedier by the day. He forgets there is a choice and a short bus trip can get you the same for a hell of a lot less money.
