The Queens Tap, Swindon

Under new management since previous reviews for this pub. New landlady is really trying hard to build a great atmosphere with a good selection of drinks, regular events and reasonable food. Pool, darts, sports TV and live music. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Very handy for train station (right opposite). Used regularly by local rugby clubs so can get really lively.

The Notley Arms, Monksilver

Friends stumbled across this pub last summer and had a cracking meal, so took us there last week when we were staying nearby. Outstanding food, good selection of ales, good atmosphere. Can thoroughly recommend this pub / restaurant.

The Sandford Hotel, Sandford

Turned up at 19:00 on a Sun night, with 11 adults and 4 children. Made very welcome, nothing was too much trouble. 11 different meals and all served quickly and good size portions including some specially cooked to order. Doom Bar was main ale and was lovely. Landlady and staff were fantastic. Give this place a try!!

The Fox and Hounds Hotel, Eggesford

great staff, but kept very busy as runing bar, waitressing and covering reception. Several local ales which seemed well kept and tasted great! Excellent food, but slightly pricey!

The Ram Inn, Redhill

Visited The Ram during the Lions Tour of South Africa because everywhere else was showing Wimbledon despite displaying Sky Sports. Great welcome from staff and locals. Good banter over the rugby whilst having a pint or two.
Food was okay - basic chain-pub usuals - and very cheap (starter, steak and a pint was less than 10).
Pub has several different areas, most with TV screens so I found it easy to get away from family area.
Stay in Nottingham most weeks on business, so will go back again.

The Grosvenor, Nottingham

Got fed up with the food when staying at the hotel opposite so ventured to the Grosvenor. Very busy at teatime, with lots of passers by stopping for a drink. Good atmosphere.
Great bar staff, helpful and friendly.
Good range of beers.
Plenty of tvs to watch sport, etc.
Good selection of food, not the best quality (as mentioned in other reviews) but adequate and served quickly.
Went back two nights later and pub was quieter, but still great atmosphere.

The Bentley Brook Inn, Fenny Bentley

Gave this place another go on halloween 2008, as staying in village. Totally different experience to last visit. Had a great time. Pub had a good atmosphere with bar decorated, special menu, etc.
Only complaint was portion size of food was small for cost.

The Red Deer, Cumbernauld

Stayed in the adjoining lodge for a few nights earlier this year and went to the Red Deer for eveing meals and a few pints.
Food was excellent - great choice, well prepared and served by friendly, helpful staff. Place was very busy every evening I was there, but never had a problem getting a table and service was prompt. Well done guys and gals!
Beer was not so good. Only ale was local brew and wasn't to my taste, could do with at least one alternative. Great selection of whisky though!

The Bentley Brook Inn, Fenny Bentley

Staying in the village, and went for eveing meal & pintabout 18:30hrs. Place was empty and looked for staff for about 5 minutes, eventaully found one and asked if they were doing food. He replied they were but not for about a hour as they had had decorators in that day and were not quite ready. Thought I'd get a pint or two and wait, only to find he promptly disappeared again! Had a look at the bar menu and thought it very pricey, so went down the road to the Coach & Horses - great welcome, great food, well worth the longer walk!
Very disappointed with the Bently Brook as was looking forward to trying their own beer. Not heard a good comment about it from other guests staying in the village over the couple of months I've been here.

The Dog and Partridge, Thorpe

Went there earlier this week despite advice from a local, and found it was okay.
Beer was great - Black Sheep Ale, good temperature, clean glass........
Food was okay, had lasagne, chips & side salad - typical catering, not outstanding, but okay and good value for money. Very quick service, depite quite a few diners in that night.
Barmaid was friendly and attentive to all the customers.
Parrot was hilarious - noisey when you sat down, butstatue-like when anyone went to see him!

The Coach & Horses, Ashbourne

I stopped here one evening for a meal and a pint after work. Very welcoming atmosphere, with steady turnover of diners during my visit.
Food was good - reasonable choice, good value for money and well presented.
Guest beers available all the time - Brains SA was on during my visit - how's that for a Welshman on the road!
Very wet June evening - typical of summer these days -the fire was lit adding to the atmosphere. Would definitely return again.
