The Cross Keys, Harpenden

Seemingly has just changed hands, but I can't imagine the welcoming atmosphere will get any better as the new owner seems very odd.

Rumour is that he's putting the less friendly of the two South African barmen in charge. It'll be very very interesting to see how that pans out.

A lot of the regulars aren't happy with the idea of the new owners coming in, as they are rumoured to be intending to bar some of the existing clientele. No bad thing if they bar some of the boorish Scots who loiter in the beer garden - middle aged pervy men who chase after any woman on her own.

You may have guessed that I don't like the place.

The Wickerman comment is highly appropriate

The George, Harpenden

Big improvement on what was there before.

Have been there for good value, good quality lunch on a number of occassions.

Very pretty and comfortable surroundings

Agree that the service is very slow though.

The Prince George, Thornton Heath

Haven't been in this place for 10 years: it was wonderful then, and I'm sure it still is now.

Great live music, and wonderful Guinness

The Bull Inn, Redbourn

Walked the Nickey Line recently from Harpenden and stumbled across this wonderful pub.

Friendly staff, lovely old style feel to the place, and a wonderful carvery with massive portions for about 9.

Well worth a visit.

They advertise the Sunday carvery as finishing up at 3pm, but they were packing up at just after 2, when we were there...

The Inn on the Green, Harpenden

They could do with changing some of the staff in there: the could give many of the cheaper establishments in Chinatown lessons in how to be rude to customers.

Great location - poor staff, and food is rotten

The Cross Keys, Harpenden

Nice pub, with a good selection of beers. Always felt welcome in there.

They could do with taking down the "No mobile phones" posters everywhere though. Are they really necessary? No one seems to adhere to them anyway ...

8/10

The Marlborough, Richmond

Really getting worse, as time goes by.

Got a blue plastic finger in the middle of a fish cake there recently, and no apology from the manager. Had to remind him that I shouldn't pay for the meal !!

A well deserved nul points

Orange Tree, Richmond

Really big improvements since the refurb a couple of years back. Lively, friendly, and good service. An unusual mix in Richmond !

Steam, Paddington

Stumbled across this place by accident. Terrible atmosphere and warm beer. Never again !!

O'Neills, Richmond

When CAMRA complain about tacky theme Oirish bars, they have places like this in mind: agressive door staff, overpriced booze, and a very dodgy crowd. Has to be one of Richmond's worst pubs

The Hope, Richmond

Thank God they've got a new manager. The old guy really ran it into the ground.

The Ailsa Tavern, Twickenham

Reasonable pub. The pool table seems to attract the Feltham lot

The Victoria Inn, Richmond

Cosy little place. A real old Old fashioned boozer. Can get a bit smoky though, and the barman could also be a bit more stringent on telling people when theyve had enough

The Hole In The Wall, Richmond

A bit grotty really. Seems to attract a rather odd crowd. Never really felt very welcoming

Steins, Richmond

Reasonably OK. You have to queue forever to get served beer though, there were no German staff there the last time I visited.

The Britannia, Richmond

Nice little pub hidden down an alleyway. Great pub grub

The Blue Anchor, Richmond

A really odd place - terrible atmosphere, and really dirty. Not some place I'd recommend.

The Hope, Richmond

Much improved since its under new management: back to the Mollys of old. Nice crowd, decent Guinness, and the new gaffer Anton is a really nice bloke, even if he did play for London Welsh !!

One Paradise Road, Richmond

Pretentious place: very overpriced, and very rude staff
