Ye White Hart, Barnes

Yes, i agree with all the coments below. It is very strange, could be one of the best pubs anywhere, but instead is really just a bit.....rubbish.

The Sun Inn, Barnes

I've been going to the sun for a few years, and i have found that it has greatly improved under the new management.

It has rthe most fantastic range of draught beers, i love it. They must have nearly 20 beers on tap, and lots more bottles. The food is fine, quite reasonably priced i have found -the chips are not half bad.

They have a problem with underfilling pints, but otherwise, it's a classic barnes pub, and long may it continue.

It was ok when it was the porterhouse, as they offered semi-interesting beer, at least.

Now, as L'auberge (part of the massive pub chain -doesn't that fill you with confidence), it has a quasi-french theme. The service is pretty good, and the garden is very nice when it's warm. The beer is a bit ropey ( their ales are often sour and cloudy) and the food is extremely variable, and a little over-priced.

It should improve soon, as the large local chav clientele who come for the TV sports should be driven away by the smoking ban.

i would disagree with the comments below about the food -I've always found it to be of excellent value, as have the many guests i have taken here. The sunday roast is something of a barnes fixture -the whole place seems to be in there most sundays.

The Fullers beer are always excellent -very well kept, and a great selection. My favorite beer pub by far.

I do feel the back half of the pub is too gloomy -i prefer the lighter, livelier front area.

The summer BBQ's are most excellent. A good atmosphere in the covered, heated garden, and nice food on the BBQ.

I'd agree with many of the comments below -i've been coming here on and off for 4 years or so. It seems to have got worse in that time. Used to make more of an effort, but now does seem to be run by 18 year-old trendies with very little idea at all about customer service.

That said, if you bear that in mind and don't attempt to order food, the beer selection is decent and always interesting, and the place has a certain atmosphere that can't be denied.

I'd agree the beer selection is dull - standard issue chemical lagers + one or two staid ales - would be nice to see some Fullers or Youngs in here as well.

The 'soulless' comments are well-founded, as well. The clientele can be a bit Chav-heavy -i was here late one night and a full-on brawl broke out which the staff were not up for stopping - in the end the police attended, and it was all rather dramatic.

Food - really rather over-priced - unless paying 15 pounds for a steak thrown on a grill by a passing australian back-packer is your idea of value.

The Cittie of Yorke, Holborn

A very nice pub. Only the cellar bar was open, but that was quite atmospheric, and non-smoking too, which always helps the atmosphere along.

sam smiths beer - not the best in the world, but possibly the cheapest, so who's complaining?

Decent Boozer.

well, i'm blowed if i can see what the fuss is about. i was told its on of the top ten gastropubs in britain - but its very average. the decor is a bit ropey, the staff are VERY slow and lazy and don't seem to care, and the food - well, i've eaten there 3 times, the best it has been is OK. had the burger today -dreadful. liek your mum made in the 80's. you coudl taste the egg binding, and it was served in crusty bread which made it impossible to eat.

The red lion in barnes is about 1000 times better, for service and for food.
