The Little Angel, Whitby

Watched Aftermath rock group there last weekend. Good rock venue and just the right size. I had the base guitar stuck in my earhole. Can get a bit cramped but who cares? It all adds to the atmosphere. Nice pub.

The Black Horse Vaults, Whitby

Great pub, small and friendly. Great pub for a natter. Kind of place where you are included in the conversation as soon as you walk in.

The Kings Arms, Weymouth

Funny you should say that Latitude. I went in late July. Walked into the downstairs bar, the barmaid saw me and walked upstairs. I waited 5 mins with no sign of being served before walking to the upstairs bar, where I saw barmaid 1 chatting to barmaid 2 with apparently no intention of serving anyone. I walked out pintless. Didn't go to the Lion though, I crossed the bridge and went to the Ship. I've rated the pub as a nought as it's not easy to rate a bar where you cannoy get a drink.

The White Swan, Swanage

I has the misfortune to eat here on Friday 30th July. The wife had the liver & bacon which she said was fine. I paid nearly 17 quid for the mixed grill.
It was impossible to cut the steak, I say steak but it was actually a piece of fat and gristle. The gammon was of a similar standard and the pork was so overdone I could not cut it. Perhaps I had been given a very blunt knife.
On the whole I paid 17 quid for two small lamb chops, an egg and mushroom and tomato: They were the only edible items on the plate.
I'd have got better better value paying 17 quid for fishcake & chips in the chippy across the road. Be warned.....order the mixed grill at your peril.

The Globe Inn, Weymouth

Called in three times w/e 7th August. What a change from my last visit. We were made to feel very welcome by staff and customers.
The new guvnor seems to be trying very hard re-establish the ambience maintained by Jan & Ron..............good luck to you, you seem to be succeeding.
We will definitely see you again on our next visit to Dorset.

The Boot, Weymouth

It's so strange that two people can visit the same pub on the same week and have two totally different opinions. I visited the Boot on three occasions w/e 7th. August. Each time the landlord was very friendly as always, as were the staff.
Mistadrink could not have been in on the nights that we were.
The Cheddar Valley cider was as usual, bang on, although I did not sample the beers,
Still the best boozer in Weymuff for me.

The Harbour Moon, West Looe

I was in here a couple of nights ago and it was such an improvement on previous visits. Very friendly staff and landlord.
We were with our 18 month old grandson who is a double handful, but we were made to feel so welcome even though it was quiz night and the place was the fullest that I have ever seen it.
Thanks again to you all, we'll see you on our next visit.

The Fishermans Arms, East Looe

It is such a pity that there are still a few pubs left like this one and the Jolly Sailor across the river. There's no food and no pool table and no crap glitzy pop juke-box playing crap muzak.
There is just great taped background music and extremely freindly landlord, staff and locals. Even Lucy is friendly once she gets to know you.
I'm an emmet and I was immediately welcomed and enjoyed the conversation. If you're a tourist and don't like this boozer, you are a tosser and probably a founder member of the anti-smoking brigade who will only be happy when the decor has been changed to a chrome and glass plastic pub, serving microwaved fish pie or lasagne, before being closed down.
Thank God for pubs like the Fisherman's who have no pretentions to be a fast food restaurant and are happy to remain being a PUB catering for the normal bloke who just wants a decent pint and some conversation, be he local or EMMET.

12 Jun 2010 18:46

The Decker, East Looe

Closed............yet another boozer bites the dust..............happy now anti-smoking lobby?

12 Jun 2010 18:19

The Thurcroft, Rotherham

Gone............Kaput..............demolished............land cleared............happy now non-smokers and cheap beer vendors?

The Somerset Hotel, Weymouth

Open again but don't rush to go in, you won't miss a lot. The pubs around the station square used to be vibrant but most of them now seem empty and scruffy.

14 Aug 2009 20:49

The Golden Lion, Weymouth

First time in for a couple of years, decent pint and a glam rock artist for entertainment.

14 Aug 2009 20:45

The Globe Inn, Weymouth

Blackboard outside the door offered a vety warm welcome. From previous experience we did not take up the offer.

14 Aug 2009 20:43

The Giant Pot, Weymouth

I used to like this pub. Called in Wednesday 5/8/09 we were the only customers.............no beer and no cider, excuse was they were awaiting delivery. Had a quickie and bid farewell, don't envisage going back.

14 Aug 2009 20:41

The Cutter Hotel, Weymouth

Nothing changes, still empty, still a dump, landlord sat outside on a stool pissed.

14 Aug 2009 20:36

The Boot, Weymouth

Called in three times during the first week in August and felt that the Boot was going downhill. Still a good range of beers and excellent Cheddar Valley cider, but on each occasion the place seemed full of tossers having a competition to see who could swear the loudest and informing anyone who would listen (It was impossible not to) how hard they were. I am neither soft of prudish but found it little intimidatory when only accompanied by the wife. A few years ago I would have stood up and confronted them, unfortunately age takes it toll when faced with about ten of them. A word from the bar staff would not have gone amiss.

14 Aug 2009 20:34

Wodehouse Arms, Falmouth

Heaving when we called on a Saturday evening 25/7/09 but quiet for the rest of the week; still friendly all the same. I hope the hen party sobered up for the wedding.

14 Aug 2009 20:20

The Star and Garter, Falmouth

Too food orientated: Staff too fond of diners to bother with drinkers. Great views over the harbour when not obscured by dirty dinner plates and food droppings left on the tables. Why do staff not clear and wipe tables when diners have left?

14 Aug 2009 20:17

The Seven Stars, Falmouth

No music, no food, no pool table and no mobile 'phones and no w*nkers: Last decorated prior to the war (boer war that is) What a great pub. I had a weapons grade ginger beer, don't know why 'cos I've never liked ginger beer, still it went down ok. Spent half an hour sat outside chatting to the lovely elderly landlady. It's a timewarp and a welcome one. Walk 50 yards from here to the horrendous Packet Station and make a comparison.

14 Aug 2009 20:13

Nancy's, Falmouth

Good pub with friendly locals and decent beer. Nancy you are a special lady and you always have time for a chat. I look forward to sitting on the window sill next time I come and having a natter and a fag. Thanks for making us so welcome on quiz-nite even though we got hammered by the resident professionals playing eight men in a team!! What some people will do to win a free pint.

14 Aug 2009 19:38

The Masons Arms, Falmouth

Nice pub with friendly landlord. Nearest pub to our B&B so was our last call most nights.

14 Aug 2009 19:34

The Kings Head, Falmouth

Fittingly situated next to a church. There was probably more life in the graveyard than this pub on the night we went in.

14 Aug 2009 19:32

The Grapes Inn, Falmouth

Great view of the harbour, can't remember much about the beer but the blonde barmaid's legs made a lasting impression. Worth a visit to see them even if you're teetotal.

14 Aug 2009 19:29

The Front Bar, Falmouth

Unassuming friendly bar with mixed clientelle and one or two interesting and previously unheard of brews. Entertainment on the night we went in but we didn't hear them as they were sat around a table eating fish & chips brought in from the Harbour Lights next door.

14 Aug 2009 19:25

Finn M'Coul's, Falmouth

One of a few pubs that actually had anybody in during midweek. Friendly pub with entertainment on most nights we were there.

14 Aug 2009 19:17

The Chainlocker and Shipwrights, Falmouth

Seemed a bit cliquish. Better company outside than in.

14 Aug 2009 19:14

The Boathouse, Falmouth

What a great pub, possibly the best in Falmouth. Decent ales, although I started with a jug of Pimms, Decent food and a view over Flushing to die for (when it wasn't raining) See you next time.

14 Aug 2009 19:11

The Shakespeare, Scarborough

This pub seems to have the monopoly on evostik sales judging by the way our feet stuck to the carpet wherever we stood. We were too scared to attempt to sit wondering what infection we might contract from the seating.
Even filthier than the Golden Last, and not as welcoming

19 Apr 2009 21:06

The Scarborough Arms, Scarborough

Went in and waited 5 minutes while the barmaid took a food order (only for one guy) She then disappeared into the kitchen saying 'back in a minute'.
She returned 5 minutes later and promptly started taking another guy's food order......WE LEFT and went somewhere we could get a pint. We shall not go back until we don't feel like a drink but want a meal. That will be a long time, pubs are for drinking in not stuffing your face.

19 Apr 2009 21:03

The Newcastle Packet Inn, Scarborough

Not that rough a pub compared to others in the town although there were a few dickheads present and this was a quiet midweek evening. I can imagine it being a bit rough at weekens.

19 Apr 2009 20:57

The Lancaster, Scarborough

Hasn't changed a lot from the times I took my kids there 30 years ago. Typical seaside front pub that does what it says on the tin, though it was empty when we were in early midweek evening.

19 Apr 2009 20:54

The Golden Last, Scarborough

Whichever sectarian persuasion or football club you support you will have to wipe your feet when you exit this hole.

19 Apr 2009 20:50

The Golden Ball, Scarborough

Good pub, decent pint if you like Sams (I do). Nice nautical theme to the pub with brill views across the harbour.
Two yachty types were in discussing how one of his mates could row to Whitby faster than his motorised boat, and then a pig flew by the window.
Takes all sorts I suppose.

19 Apr 2009 20:48

The Angel Inn, Scarborough

Nice clean and friendly boozer. Quiet when we went in but full the following night due to Man U and Arsenal being on the telly on different screens. Decent beer.

19 Apr 2009 20:43

The Albert, Scarborough

Stayed just around the corner so we made this our local. Nice friendly pub, a bit quiet but it was a freezing cold midweek following Easter. The young guy behind the bar was most welcoming.

19 Apr 2009 20:40

The Boot, Weymouth

I've visited weymouth many times, but this year was the first year I discovered The Boot. Sad to say that I have missed out on previous visits. Good pub, good beer, good company, good meals (ie they don't serve any). What a change to visit an olde fashioned pub where the emphasis is on beer and conversation instead of stuffing your face. Thanks for a couple of good evenings, look forward to seeing you again on our next visit.

14 Aug 2008 20:17

Tom Sawyers Tavern, West Looe

Decent food, can be eaten in the bar or smart and clean resaurant. Great views, we saw a pair of dolphins performing in the bay.

13 Aug 2008 11:41

The Jolly Sailor, West Looe

Stayed in a B&B close by, made this pub our local. The best pub in Looe for us, and we visited them all. We were immediately made to feel welcome by Tina and the landlord, and the drunken butcher from next door. So nice to visit a pub where you could get a good drink and that was not dominated by food sales. We will definately be propping up the bar again on our return.

13 Aug 2008 11:37

The George Inn, Weymouth

Be careful, don't put your drink on the bar. If the customers don't pinch it then the bar staff must remove it............it's happened to me three times in the last two visits.

22 Jun 2008 02:08

Excise House, Weymouth

To the loneserver to help combat the stink of chips, serve beer not food. Last time I visited it was quicker getting a meal than getting a pint. No one interested in pulling pints, just grabbing profits from the food trade.

To truckerphil, the toilets and smell of chip fat were far less noticeable when people were allowed to smoke in the PUB. It's quite OK for you to pollute the environment with your truck's diesel fumes, but it's horrendous to have a fag in your local.

Of course, it is no longer the remit of pubs to serve a decent pint of ale now, only to act as restaurants, serving meals to tourists. Just wait until some clever bugger at the BMA invents passive cholestoral, then you'll be allowed to serve food in restaurants or pubs. No fags......no food......what next? No beer.
