The Black Buoy, Wivenhoe

The food here is outstanding, I havent been there for a couple of years mind you, but used to take the parents there when I was at uni. good choice for veggies too. Always found the staff really nice and helpful. Hated driving round the bendy lanes and getting into the carpark though!

The Magpie, Bishopsgate

Im lucky that this is a great pub so near my work. I think the staff are excellent, the food is damn fine too (pickled eggs if you fancy them 2). Not a poncey place in the slightest, is a genuine old fashioned pub and reasonably priced, I dont drink the traditional beers but hear from many that they have a good selection. Only moan is it gets a bit busy in there - fine in the summer when we can all hang about outside but not so great when it is raining and people are treading on your feet.

The Barley Mow, Shoreditch

Recently stumbled upon this pub with a group of friends and we were all in agreement that it was a fab find. The strawberry beer was rather tasty, few tasty men in there 2! Friendly punters and staff alike, we even got a few packets of crisps on the house at the end of the night - we are easily pleased. Will defo return, and try not to take up much space, promise.

Golden Lion, Romford

I think this pub is the best in Romford. Its unique to Romford in that its not the samey, chavvy breed of boozer like everywhere else. The staff are polite and helpful, and serve quickly and fairly (rather than the person just standing immediately in front of them like wetherspoons for example). Have eaten in here a few times and the food is good for a pub. Its not cheap, but worth the money if only to avoid all the wrong-uns elsewhere.

Crown, Hornchurch

Lived close to this place and only went in there to meet people who were drinking down there as I hated it that much! Your feet stick to the carpet, your elbows get dirty leaning on the bar and as for the toilets say no more. The landlord (or manager not sure) is rude and im amazed no-one has chucked a bar stool at him, he is a p**s taker. To make matters worse its quite expensive as well, they definitely need another pub in the area, I feel sorry for the little old men who have to drink in there as they have nowhere else to go, bless them even they grumble about it. On a positive note, the band nights are quite good.

The Harrow, Hornchurch

Agree the only good thing this place has going for it is the garden. Its quite a nice place for lunch if there aren't too many of the usual crowd there, as this place is full of poseurs who think themselves god's gift (lots of flicking of hair extensions so be careful of your beer). This place seems to be constantly refurbished, the money would be better spent on recruiting more bar staff.

The Fatling and Firkin, Hornchurch

Staff are generally good - esp the bouncers and my 2 fav barmen, Lewis and Danny. DJ Howie is fab and a good variety of bands play down here. Has changed a bit since lloyds closed and since the refurbishment but fights are a rarity and atmosphere is usually good. Downside - the Loos are a bit of a disgrace and would be better if there was more male totty in the place(!)
