The Lion Inn, Blakey Ridge

One of our favourite drives in North Yorkshire takes us across the moors from Hutton-Le-Hole to Castleton, and the Lion Inn is one of the highlights of this beautiful route. The pub is popular with walkers and travellers, and rightly so. The interior is possibly the perfect pub -- warm, cosy, comfortable. The food is very good pub food. And the beer is really very good. All in all, this is one of our favourites.

The Black Swan, York

Superb atmosphere at this pub in a timbered building close to the Shambles and the old heart of the city. Excellent beer, too. One of our annual pub stops while in Yorkshire, we thoroughly recommend this.

The Victoria, Saltburn by the Sea

Beautiful High Victorian pub with very well-kept beer. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit here -- at the moment it's our favourite pub in Saltburn. Friendly lad behind the bar, comfortable and good beer -- who could want more?

The Marine, Saltburn by the Sea

Amazing location on the Marine Parade in Saltburn. Real Victoriana and quite comfortable. We should have sat in the right hand room, which was quieter, but still enjoyed our pints. Not the best beer in Saltburn, but not bad at all.

The Old Well, Barnard Castle

Having tried another pub in Barnard Castle with some disappointment at the beer, we picked up an issue of the CAMRA newsletter and saw an ad for The Old Well, and went there. Good choice. We found it perfectly comfortable, with superbly-kept real ales (some of them very local and special) and a simple but delicious menu. First rate, and we'd recommend it to anyone.

Fox and Hounds, Saltburn by the Sea

We love this pub. We've never eaten here, so can't comment on the food, but the location is beautiful and the beer is first rate. There are two rooms plus a deck area. The back room has a couple of tables but is mostly comfy, shabby chairs and sofas, and is a great place for spreading out with the papers or having a drink with friends.

The Cod and Lobster, Staithes

Although it's got the best location for a pub in Staithes, and it's well worth a visit just for the view, when we visited last year we found the food (fish and chips) not terribly good and the beer ordinary.

The Royal George, Staithes

No up to date reviews here, so I'll add one. We're currently staying in Staithes for the third time, and the Royal George is one of our three favourite pubs locally. Very good beer, cosy pub and first class food. Have the steak and ale pie -- rich and delicious. Friendly folks and free wi fi, the last I checked.

The Captain Cook, Staithes

Visited here a few times while in Staithes this week -- one of our favourites when in the area. Excellent beer, well-kept. It's certainly a bit run down, but it suits us perfectly. If you care more about the beer than the decor, this is for you.

The Endeavour, Whitby

Visited today -- very good guest beers, great fellow behind bar. Nice atmosphere and a great place to read the papers and have a pint.
