Jack Beards at the Plough, Camberwell

Apparently going to reopen as restaurant

The Old Dispensary, Camberwell

New licence application posted on door early February so reopening soon?

The Mudlark, London Bridge

Pub in good location and on the surface with pleasant interior but badly let down by the staff - we were told on entering the pub at 5:30 on a Sunday afternoon that it was closing at 6. When we insisted that we only wanted one we were reluctantly served but made to feel very unwelcome by the rude staff. Whatsmore the 15+ people that came in to the pub in the next 30 minutes were all sent away. I'm surprised they are able to make a profit with such short opening hours and such rude staff.

The Canton Arms, South Lambeth

Spot the contributions from management (last three comments). Yes pub is ok - nothing special but reasomable at what it attempts

The Lavender, Clapham

Apalling - staff cant get orders right and then have cheek to demand service charge

3 Jun 2007 23:11

The Fentiman Arms, Kennington

Manager is horrible!

3 Jun 2007 23:10

The Riverside, Vauxhall

Indeed not worth the hassle - proper pubs can be found in Vauxhall/South Lambeth/ Stockwell. Proper restaurants can be found in South Lambeth/ Clapham/ Pimlico

Gate, Notting Hill

I was impressed by food - tasty burgers/ fries type thing, price expensive but not outrageously so for area.

Not at all impressed with the 12.5% service charge and this was for service that meant that the three burgers we ordered (together) came to our table 10 minutes apart. So come on if you are going to charge for service make sure its good service

7 May 2007 11:32

The City Darts, Whitechapel

HAS NOW CLOSED AND REOPENED AS PRINCESS ALICE

1 May 2007 11:16

THE CAMBRIA, CAMBERWELL

Pub quiz 8:30 Thursday evenings

26 Apr 2007 14:30

Funky Munky, Camberwell

Much improved on a recent visit - food range seems to have improved and beer and wine selection good. Nice to sit outside and watch the camberwell world go by

The Grove, Camberwell Grove

Ian_34 why do I get the impression that you are in some way connected to the pub and so have a stake in giving it a good review? Are you the manager of this establishment or just one of the Youngs corporate types? The spelling mistake in your review is consistent with the spelling mistake in the pub description.

This pub is ok -nothing particularly good but nothing particularly bad- and the plentiful staff helpful but its got absolutely no soul. And the prices cause sharp intakes of breath - there are so many better pubs with character in Camberwell so there is no need to go to this beer barn.

Jack Beards at the Plough, Camberwell

Sad only ever seems to be maximum of six people in there

11 Apr 2007 14:38

The Joiners Arms, Denmark Hill

An old fashioned working class pub - not been gastro-fied, winebar-ified or any other changes, just a standard pub.

11 Apr 2007 14:36

The Riverside, Vauxhall

Yes we were hit by the 12.5% service charge on a recent visit for service that was unexceptional and slow. In total we paid 53 for two single course meals from the Sunday menu and one bottle of white wine - daylight robbery!

11 Apr 2007 12:05

The Oak Tree, Sevenoaks

Not bad for daytime visit - friendly service, good range of beers and standard pub prices.

27 Mar 2007 11:07

Sennockian, Sevenoaks

One of the better Wetherspoons I have been into - not too dark, not too smoky. Good range of beers including Westerhams

27 Mar 2007 11:04

The Cube, Camberwell

Is this place still open?

27 Mar 2007 11:01

The Old Dispensary, Camberwell

HAS NOW CLOSED

27 Mar 2007 11:00

The Grove, Camberwell Grove

Has now reopened and first impressions are not good - they have redone the interior so that it is now full of tables and barn like. Worst thing is it has no soul. Often more bar staff than customers. I guess it could be described as a higher class Wetherspoons

28 Feb 2007 11:08

Dark Horse, Camberwell

Much better than the newly reopened Grove across the road - warm, intimate generally posh pub where you dont mind paying a bit more for your drinks

28 Feb 2007 11:06

Sir Issac Pitman, Trowbridge

Fantastic - nothing better for a night out on a Friday or Saturday in Trowbridge

13 Dec 2006 12:17

The George Canning, Denmark Hill

Looks like the George Canning's owner/ manager / staff member / PR company wrote the last review...

On a recent visit after a month or so I do think it has improved, the staff were much more attentive and competent and the general atmosphere was better. The menu also looked like it had been renewed and made more extensive - although I didnt eat it looked good on the surrounding tables.

22 Nov 2006 11:05

The Robin Hood and Little John, Camberwell

Good local

22 Nov 2006 11:00

The Old Dispensary, Camberwell

Very pleasant late night bar with good range of beers and wines and decent looking menu. Great to come here on the way home when the 11pm closing Camberwell pubs have shut

23 Oct 2006 14:44

Dark Horse, Camberwell

Good for breakfast/lunch at weekends - although slightly on the expensive side my cooked breakfast was excellent

9 Oct 2006 11:08

Lloyds No. 1, Manchester

1.59 a pint for the guest ale - cant be bad

27 Sep 2006 16:34

The Cricketers, Brighton

Very plesant pub - on a recent visit we had several very enjoyable pints sat in the undercover area between the bars

13 Sep 2006 14:15

All Bar One, Cambridge Circus

Definitely shut and interior being ripped out

5 Sep 2006 14:05

The Chandos, Trafalgar Square

fantastic range of beers, good location, very good value. Like most pubs gets crowded after work but otherwise its usually fairly easy to get seats

5 Sep 2006 14:01

Dark Horse, Camberwell

Not bad as these kind of places go. Trendy, dark wooden furniture look, not really much different from previous Blakes although several pictures of dark horses, lots of wines, standard pub selection of beers with Black Sheep bitter. Menu looks a bit pretentious - roast guinea fowl anyone? - but overall good. Prices are standard trendy pub prices: ie around 3 a pint, 5 a large glass of wine.

4 Aug 2006 14:17

The Sun and Doves, Camberwell

Great on summer Sunday evenings when there is live music. Service does seem to have improved greatly since my last visit. Food looked tasty but was only being served until 9:30 so I wasnt able to try it

31 Jul 2006 17:15

Dark Horse, Camberwell

Indeed did reopen as Dark Horse on Friday - initial impression is that its gone down the trendy leather sofas route. Too early to give a more detailed review

31 Jul 2006 17:13

The Black Sheep, Camberwell

Yeah not bad - certainly better than the other pubs in the area -the Hanover Arms/ Greyhound anyone?- and good range of standard beers etc

18 Jul 2006 18:15

The George Canning, Denmark Hill

Food bad all round on a recent Sunday visit - expensive, nothing special and took over 30 minutes to arrive. They appeared to be having a 'barbecue' as well (even though they have no outside space to speak of) which punters were even more disappointed by. Bar staff, whilst pretty, seemed unable to cope with the lunchtime rush whilst bar manager/landlord seemed to want to stand around drinking

Oh dear seems to have let itself go...

18 Jul 2006 16:03

The Morpeth Arms, Pimlico

...And there is a fornightly quiz night

14 May 2006 11:59

The Morpeth Arms, Pimlico

As most of the other contributers say its a good standard Youngs pub with reasonable range of sandwiches, paninis and other snacks. It is reassuring that a good pub like this has not been converted into All Bar One clone. Particularly reassuring is the picture of the Queen Mother pulling a Youngs pint!

14 May 2006 11:57

The Royal Albert, South Lambeth

Following a recent visit I have revised my rating from a 9 to a 5. What made this pub attractive -the beer garden, pool tables, darts and good vibe- have been replaced by standard features that can be found in any pub. I used to really enjoy coming to the Prince Albert in the summer months but now I dont think I'll bother: in the words of one of my friends: its nothing special and certainly not worth spending premium pub prices on

14 May 2006 11:53

The George Canning, Denmark Hill

Let itself go a bit recently; the revitalised Phoenix seems to be taking lots of its customers.
