The Plough, Long Wittenham

Ive been meaning to call in here since I moved to the area in 2008. Finally called in over the weekend and was largely impressed with the place. Nice beer garden out the back on a summers day, the food was fairly traditional pub food but honest, unpretentious and nicely prepared after a reasonable wait. The guest beers were both well kept and overall good value for food and drinks. The young lad bringing the food out was perfectly pleasant, the barman a bit grumpy on the other hand until we left when we did get a thank you & wave.

A nice end to a walk on the nearby Thames or Wittenham Clumps

The Hare and Hounds, Old Warden

Another favourite of mine. More of an eating pub now than a drinking pub, but good choice of well kept Wells ales available. Food has always been excellent although in really huge portions! Service also been very good and fairly priced.

The Yorkshire Grey, Biggleswade

Don't go expecting the world and you won't be disapointed. Its a Greene King Hungry Horse so big plates of average food, average beers and average environment. Nice on a summers evening with the big garden although the advance of houses around the pub has ruined this somewhat.

Has had a reputation in the past for well known drug dealing and fights breaking out on a regular basis. This may have changed in more recent times.

The John O'Gaunt Inn, Sutton

A real gem, and one Greene King have not been allowed to ruin. A proper country pub offering reasonable food, good beers with the odd guest available. Cozy, full of locals and with darts, old fashioned bar skittles inside and a pentanq area in the delightful garden at the back. Lovely on a warm summers evening to wile away the hours enjoying the peace and quiet, view and genuine atmosphere.

The Greyhound, Tidmarsh

Stopped in here recently on the suggestion of a friend. Nice quaint looking pub although apparently a fraud, as the original burnt down and was rebuilt in a retro style some years ago.

Service from the young barman only average to be honest, but the Fullers ESB was in good condition and the food was excellent. I would go as far as to say some of the best food I have had when eating out recently in terms of quality and value. The waitress was better than the barman at service.

Worth a visit, would be even better if they could improve the initial service

The Ben Johnson, Weston on the Green

I'd seen some bad reviews for the Ben Jonson on here, but a good review in the Oxford Mail and its attractive apperance convinced me to try it out. Good move is all I can say, food was fresh, tasty and really well cooked. Great menu, friendly staff and very well priced for a county gastro-pub. Good choice of beers from Adnams, Hooky and Green King (if you must!) I'd certainly recommend giving it a try if the service was as good as we had
