The Hare and Hounds, Leyton

This is a proper east end pub, great place to while away a couple of hours. Landlord and landlady try really hard to make this place work and always put a party on for an event. In the past we've had a wedding party for the royal wedding complete with wedding lunch, a jubilee party with cockney band and pimms and cucumber sandwiches, firework displays with BBQ and various bands at different times. Their Halloween party is fantastic with loads of people dressing up and prizes for the best dressed. Their food is all home oooked and curry night on a Wednesday is mouthwatering. Get down there, keep an eye on the boards outside for events, you may find yourself having a good time.

The King Edward VII, Stratford

What have they done to the Eddie!!! Have loved this pub for many years and was a great place to go, Victorian interior, great staff, friendly owner, alas no more. Since it changed hands it is now one of the worst pubs to drink in Stratford and that's saying something!! Last night there was an incongruent disco, no glasses for drinks, shorts being served in beer glasses and people dancing in the balcony area like they were on a podium in Ibiza. Maybe I'm getting old but it's not for me anymore. I agree with a previous reviewer that it's now like an overpriced goose, looks like my love affair with it is done

The Anchor and Hope, Charlton

Love this pub, its great on a sunday afternoon sitting in the sun which it basks in all afternoon.

The locals and staff are really friendly, kids play happily outside whilst parents have a cheeky beer, in the summer they sometimes bring the entertainment outside to the beer garden overlooking the river.

On my last visit, a pearly king and queen turned up in their pearly taxi and played the spoons for a while.

Its a real gem and one of those pubs where you go for one and leave at last orders

The Dove, Bethnal Green

Visited this pub on a Saturday afternoon, wrong time and wrong pub to walk into.

Crowded in the upstairs bar, so we moved to the back bars which were quite nook and crannyish but all the more better for it. What staggered us was the price. A half a pint of cider ( dont know what brand or whether it was hand pressed by golden haired virgins) cost 3.90, yep thats right 3.90. We went back to check the price with the bar staff who both said that that was the price and that they dont make the price, just work there. All with a surly dismissive attitude at that.

Wont be visiting here again, its full of people trying just a bit too hard, and there are much better pubs in the near vicinity that actually manage to maintain some of their east end roots, and at a lot cheaper price.
