The Waterwitch, Odiham

I haven't been here for a while but it looks like it's been done up a bit with new furniture on the lovely terrace. Packed as usual on a sunny day but staff were lovely and a big jug of Pimms kept the ladies happy while we enjoyed great Abbot Ale.

The Anchor Inn, Lower Froyle

All fur coat and no knickers. Looks great, beautiful since refurb but prices higher than far superior places in central London. Once bitten, never again

The Chequers Inn, Well

I've been here with friends a couple of times recently and am not sure how I feel about it. Drinks are fine, decent wines limited ales as its owned by Hall and Woodhouse. Food is on the expensive side for what it is, fairly small portions in big impressive bowls but cheap old cutlery.
I can't understand why they put people who want to eat in the small bar area when theres an empty restaurant next door. Means theres no room for people who just want a drink, or maybe they dont want to encourage drinkers.
I have to say that the staff are generally awful. Scruffy looking jeans and t shirts, no clue about what theyre doing and miserable with it. maybe thats unfair and theyve just not been trained. One foreign girl seems to have some idea what shes doing but stomps around in builders boots.
The thing is I keep going back as its such a lovely spot with such potential to go from ok to great. I just wish the manager would take it in hand

I don't think this is "just" a pub either. Then again i don't think it has been for quite some time. It is however a fairly good place to go for a decent pub/restaurant meal at reasonable prices. 3 courses for 12 if money is tight!
Friends visiting this weekend suggested we go there as we've taken them there in the past. I booked a table, I don't think they used to take bookings but they do now, just as well as the place was packed.
Standard ales, Bombadier, TEA and london Pride, not a particularly exciting choice but well kept (between us we tried all three) Food tasty, fairly quick given how busy it was, don't know if they sell crisps, not particularly bothered but they do sell some great smokey nuts which one of our party had instead of a starter. Nice to see a pub so popular when we keep being told how many are closing every week
Agree that if you want a proper old fashioned boozer The Bell is the place to go, but wouldn't it be boring if everywhere was the same

The Swan, Ash Vale

Cycled along the canal from home near odiham to visit The Swan. Never again!! But that's the cycling part not the visit.
Pub was great, friendly staff and prompt service of decent food. Same paper menu as The Waterwitch in Odiham but different meals on the blackboards. Reasonably priced ales and a good choice.
Had to get friends wife to pick us up in 4x4 to get the bikes back though

The Chequers Inn, Well

Mostly go here for a quiet drink with wife. Good ales, unusual lagers and nice wines at fairly reasonable prices. Food is expensive and main menu hasnt changed since it was put in by new owner (Roy/Ray?) But weve eaten here twice and quality and portion size was good

Got to eat here today with family. Extremely busy but waited a bit and got table on patio. Young staff under pressure and looking like they were feeling the heat, but then so were we. Told food would be 45 mins but seemed to be faster. V tasty. Ruddles Bitter a change from prev visit, well kept.

The Fox and Goose, Greywell

Eaten here a few times both when owned by Sheila and now by new man. Food quality and prices always fine for me. Food is quicker now. Can't remember which ales on sale on my last visit but wife was driving so maybe I sampled one too many. New man not exactly a personality but pleasant enough.

Really can't see how this place is still open. Scruffy looking owners or managers or whatever they are. Used it a bit when Peter was in charge but not any more. Drinks warm and beer badly kept, service from a bloke permanently in an old football shirt. My money is on it for the next in the area to shut.

The Anchor, Southwark

Had the misfortune of visiting on the way to the lovely Borough market round the corner. Lost the will to live by the time I got a pint of iffy Pride and a glass of cheap plonk at Chateau bottled prices. Nibbles plate was good value and arrived quickly. Shame the kitchen staff don't work the bar too.

The Crown, Odiham

Never saw many people in here since it opened again. young inexperienced staff with no personality. Had to explain what I meant when I asked for a wine bucket to keep our bottle cool. Not surprised to see it shut yet again. Looks like its going to be a Bangladeshi restaurant now

The Bell, Odiham

Nice position in the Bury, better outside than the George on a nice evening, not so many petrol fumes. Fairly cheap for the area. Wouldn't like the job of keeping all those flowers watered.

The Waterwitch, Odiham

Very busy at weekend. Great choice of fairly reasonably priced wines for the wife and three real ales. TEA, Bombardier and Speckled Hen as the guest ale. Will go back again to try the food as I saw some tasty looking dishes.
