The Burleigh Arms, Cambridge

Suprisingly cheap, cheerful, and actually rather good food.

The British Queen, Cambridge

Neither the terrible place it's reputation suggests, or particularly good either. At least the faux-American theming of 'Fat Jacks' failed miserably to return to a proper British pub.

The Blackamoors Head, Cambridge

Hmm, a bit dodgy. Always been a bit dodgy, really.

The Bird In Hand, Cambridge

Listed completely in the wrong place :( It's actually on Newmarket Road.

Used to be an excellent place when run by Trevor Critchlow. Since it was taken over by the people from the Town and Gown it's become the campest place in existence [in my opinion, a 'gay pub' is perfectly fine, but a 'very camp gay pub' is just plain annoying], with almost constant teeny-bopper discos. A terrible waste of what was a good pub.

The Fort St George, Cambridge

Good beer, reasonable food, mostly dodgy people. Make sure you sit outside overlooking the river. You can watch boaties do their stuff if that's your kind of thing.

The Cambridge Arms, Cambridge

It may have been the Brewery; but before that it was the Rattle + Hum (why??) and before that it was indeed, the Cambridge Arms! This place veers between reasonable and dodgy.

The Cambridge Blue, Cambridge

An excellent non-smoking children-friendly pub. Very good homemade food, and good ales. Yes, there can be too many children, but I get into trouble whenever I say that :/ Garden is lovely. And no mobiles, a policy all pubs should have.

The Earl of Derby, Cambridge

Been refurbished recently to have 12 B+B rooms apparently. An average place in approximately the middle of nowhere.

The Osborne Arms, Cambridge

A few years ago this was very run-down and ragged. The outside looks the same; the inside may well have improved.

The Alma, Cambridge

A Ridleys pub, unique for the area. Went through an excellent phase about 4 years ago (including a telephone box of pihranas!) but not so good now.

The Cross Keys, Cambridge

I quite like this place; it's small, on two levels, and is friendly, though there never seem to be many people in it.

The Prince Albert, Ely

An amazing pub, friendly, excellent beer, and the garden is the most beautiful I've been in.

The Six Bells, Cambridge

I like this place. One of the barstaff tried to rip me off once but I caught him. I accept this as a one-off though, so still recommend it.

The Emperor, Cambridge

Nice pub, good food, friendly. If it wasn't out of my way I'd go much more often.

The Fountain, Cambridge

The nicest pub in this area of town, though that's not much of a compliment. I've always liked this place quite a lot, though I'm not sure why. Atmosphere?

PS. The Lord Byron at the station has turned into a M&S. Bah.

The Rat and Parrot, Cambridge

Oh, why go here at all? I've been in some very dodgy pubs in my time, but this place is the only time I've been told to f off at about 6 in the evening. No real ale, no atmosphere, bouncers. Ugh.

The Regal, Cambridge

They tried with this place, but it's too big and serves beer too cheap (though the time it takes to get served compensates in the getting drunk factor!). Not suited to Cambridge at all, though as with Wetherspoons in general they try to promote real ale and so forth.

The Cricketers, Cambridge

Went through an unfriendly period, for lack of a better phrase, but has recently expanded and it decent now. Good garden.

2 Nov 2004 17:56

The Druids, Cambridge

It's a pub again, called the Druids (as opposed to the Ancient ones). Haven't visited, but the clientele look the same as when it was Ancient.

2 Nov 2004 17:52

The Tram Depot, Cambridge

Decent place; Everards pubs are a good thing. Not half as good as when smaller with the upstairs section; now too many mirrors. Food is good however.

2 Nov 2004 17:51

The St Radegund, Cambridge

A must-visit in Cambridge. More unique features than most of the rest of the pubs put together.

2 Nov 2004 17:50

The Bun Shop, Cambridge

The pub bit is reasonable; in fact that sums up most things about this place. Not brilliant, not bad at all. Friendly staff.

2 Nov 2004 17:49

The Baron of Beef, Cambridge

Decent Greene King place, but better of a day than the evening. At least there's no fishing nets on the ceiling anymore! Outside patio.

2 Nov 2004 17:46

Sir Isaac Newton, Cambridge

Quite a bland, sports-oriented Greene King pub. Let's see what Trevor does with it when he takes it over!

2 Nov 2004 17:45

The Pickerel Inn, Cambridge

Good Beer Guide, low ceilings, probably the oldest pub in Cambridge (well, that or the Green Dragon). Too many Magdalene college students, but otherwise very nice.

2 Nov 2004 17:44

The Zebra, Cambridge

Very nice, friendly place. Only downside is the drinks are a bit expensive.

2 Nov 2004 17:41

The Champion of the Thames, Cambridge

This is an excellent place for a quiet drink, well-kept beer, friendly locals, and a fantastic interior.
