The Odd Wheel, Wembury

Visited today for a family meal with octogenarian parents. We haven't been here since the new management took over and were pleasantly surprised at how nice the renewal has turned out. The bars have a much more pleasant feel about them and there is a good choice of beers including 3 guest ales on our visit today. As the previous reviewer has pointed out, there is a greater emphasis on food now. We had starters and main course each which were both of good quality and reasonably priced. We will be visitng again.

The White Horse, Longford

Visited on 5th June 2010. A choice of 5 ales on hand pull and an extensive choice of bottled ales, spirits and soft drinks. Good coffee and hot chocolate too if required. I was drinking Woodforde's Wherry (3.8%) which was very well kept while my wife was on vodka and diet cokes. Service was good with well-dressed and polite staff. We had a main course and a pudding each which were both excellent! The prices here are not cheap but neither is the quality. The washroom facilities are good and clean. I would thoroughly recommend this pub. If you're visiting the area, give it a go.

The Morning Star, Cholsey

As this pub is on one of the Thames Path routes (the section that ends at Cholsey followed by a walk to the railway station) I thought I would pop in yesterday, Saturday 5th June 2010. I had checked it out here as well as looking at their website which proclaimed Saturday lunchtime opening hours of noon to 3pm. Imagine my disappointment when, after 16miles of walking on a very hot and sunny day, I arrived at their doors at 1.30pm to find the premises locked up. The opening hours on their front notice board had tape placed over them. Looking through the windows, the place looked pleasant and ready for business. All bottles were in the racks. All the tables had menus and cutlery laid out, everything looked clean. But there were no people around, no lights on and no explanation. I had no option but to continue to the railway station and take the next train back to civilisation! The lack of an explanation for this unexpected closure leaves me no option than to score them a zero.

The White Horse, Longford

Just visited today with relatives from New Zealand. Beer was good (Abbots, London Pride, Courage) and service was excellent. No compalints at all. The females in our party, who are choosy when it comes to toilet facilities, were highly complimentary with regard to cleanliness which we were very impressed with.

The Three Stags, Lambeth

I visited this pub at lunchtime today with a group of about 12-14 of us. Service was SLOW. Most of us then ordered food. Not the greatest choice in the world and a little on the expensive side, but what the hell, it was nice being out as a group. What a mistake!

The prices for what was delivered to the tables was ridiculous. Almost 8.00 for the smallest slice of salmon terrine you have ever seen with about 5 tiny lettuce leaves and 4 small slices of toast. Almost 6.00 for smoked salmon sandwiches which comprised 2 slices of bread with a bit of salmon and cream cheese, cut into triangles and served with about 7 or 8 tortillas.

I'd have loved to have commented on the beers or the atmosphere but the food ruined it for us all and we left after that and spent our considerable pot of money elsewhere.

Gastropub? Don't make me laugh!!!
