The Bell, Bath

This place was bought my regulars past and present when the previous Landlord decided to sell up. A hugely successful fundraising effort followed and the community manage to raise the funds and buy the place. I am pleased that I was able to contribute along with several celebs who also got their wallets out. Including Robert Plant from the mighty Led Zep! It is now a community owned pub and we all have a say in the future.

The Lady Westminster, Acocks Green

A very basic pub, standard drinks , no real ale , looks like a place only professional drinkers would love .

Jolly Butchers, Stoke Newington

Excellent pub - amused by some of the comments, beer snobs are hilarious!

I like drinking ale, and this pub serves nice ale. Staff are very friendly and helpful, recommending pints, letting you have a taster. Plenty of choice, if a previous favourite ale is no longer on, there'll be another favourite to try.

The food is pretty good too, gets rammed at weekend evenings, so get there early if you want to sit down.

A welcome addition to N16 drinking.

Smiths of Bourne, Bourne

Best pub in Bourne imo, went to a few , avoided a few others, but the selection of ales was superb. Friendly staff, nice vibe to the place.

The Nelson Head, Horsey

Lovely pub, friendly staff, hearty food. Serves a good pint of Woodforde's. Also caters for lager drinkers. In an isolated spot,so will close early if no one turns up,recommended pub, stayed next door and was in most nights.I'd go to more pubs in London if they were like this one.

The Royal Sovereign, Clapton

A great addition to the area which is fairly badly served for pubs to be fair. Spent a great evening there with a load of non-regulars and we were made to feel very welcome by the staff and regulars. I live nearby and will be going there a lot more, maybe I'll run into the "best Elvis impersonantor in the whole Country" again.

The Edinboro Castle, Camden

Went there for the first time a few nights ago, I've lived in London for over 20 years, and have drunk in Camden a lot over that period, never got around to checking out this pub.

It's ok, nothing special, had a couple of ales on which were ok, could do with expanding the selection of Ales on tap to be fair.

Strange mix of drinkers, you have old stylie Camden people mixing with I could only describe as vapid meeja people. Whilst at the bar, I heard one meeja clone, talking to her mates about buying a round (don't talk about it, just do it!) and wondering if she had enough "cashish" to get the beers in, well she should have gone to the "cashish" machine before hand.

Can't say I'll be a regular there, the meeja people can have it as a safe outpost, for them to talk about cashish and that.

The Earl of Chatham, Woolwich

dull dull dull - nothing going for it at all

The Princess of Wales, Clapton

i like going here in the summer - food is so so, but beer is fine, and it's lovely sitting outside

15 Mar 2008 12:32

The Eclipse, Clapton

i think they have changed the name of the pub to the englefield - some sort of legal problem about the name eclipse

15 Mar 2008 12:29

The Fountain, Hackney

this place is closed down know - has been boarded up for months

15 Mar 2008 12:28

Yucatan, Stoke Newington

good locals pub - great for football

15 Mar 2008 12:27

Satchmo's, Stoke Newington

this place is made of fail - never seems to get busy - spent a fortune doing it up, but location is all wrong - last i heard (via a poster in a local cafe) then owners have applied for a licence to allow strippers

The Prince, Stoke Newington

low quality of eateries? have you actually ever been to N16?

The food is good in this place, a bit pricy, but the roasts on a sunday are great. Friendly staff, quite laid back, gets a bit too family friendly at the weekends but not a problem

Three Crowns, Stoke Newington

now back to it's original name, looking more like a pub than before, but a bit scruffy leather sofas and candle light. If you like that sort of thing, ok for hanging about in, but if you want to read a newspaper with your pint on a winter's evening, very difficult in that light. not the best pub in stokie but alright, i guess

The Longacre Tavern, Bath

scary? that surprises me, but i haven't been there for years, used to be renowned as the only place around there with "flexible hours" during those dark days when there was afternoon closing in pubs...

10 Sep 2006 02:11

The Wenlock Arms, Hoxton

great pub, a hidden treasure, almost reluctant to review it..

last time i was there, the bar man criticised my choice of adnams as "a safe choice sir"

I think they only have one lager on tap, and no one appears to drink it

10 Sep 2006 02:08

The Assembly Inn, Bath

i used to go here in the early 80s when i was a teenager, went there recently when i was back in bath, it's no longer the choice of the younger drinker, it's one of my dad's favourite pubs, and he won't see 60 again...

10 Sep 2006 02:05

The Hoste Arms, Burnham Market

food was great, service was poor, and the sloaney element big. I mean, hugh grant hair cut?

10 Sep 2006 02:00

The Eagle, Hoxton

went there for the first time a few weeks ago, have to agree the service was woeful, took ages to get served, not because of a lack of staff, but poorly trained staff. Decent bar staff know who's been at the bar longest and serve that person, they don't just serve who they feel like serving.

St James Wine Vaults, Bath

I don't live in bath any more but on my visits always cehck out this place. Always a friendly welcome, usually has some interesting beer on tap.

The Chesham Arms, Homerton

a gem of a pub, hidden away just off homerton high street, behind sutton house. good selection of beer, great friendly staff and locals...

5 Dec 2004 22:53

Defoe, Stoke Newington

not for everyone, i'd agree, a friendly pub though, if slighty lacking in atmosphere

5 Dec 2004 22:48

The Prince, Stoke Newington

Great pub, always a good atmosphere in there, friendly staff, nice part of adnams, a little pricy would be my only negative...

5 Dec 2004 22:46

The Bell, Bath

a pub i definitely visit on my trips to bath

3 Dec 2004 22:58

The Anchor and Hope, Clapton

a great place to head for in the summer, great for a leisutely pint by the canal, sad that the old landlord died, but it didn't appear to have changed too much when i visited it in august 2004. highlight was their search for the only wine glass in the pub (not for me)

30 Nov 2004 20:05

The Grappa Bar, Bath

i remember with a lot of affection the beehive, in my teenage years i often sampled the scrumpy, it is awful what they have done to the place....sad sad sad...avoid this place

30 Nov 2004 20:02

The Crooked Billet, Clapton

An okayish boozer, probably best avoided on a friday or saturday night when it's either karoake, or they have an act on, usually a male/femal combo playing the latest hits..

good football pub though, very much an arsenal pub...reasonably priced food, fair selection af ales and good proces. A real local pub, serves the people of clapton, which in that part of it, is woefully lacking in pubs.

30 Nov 2004 19:58

The Eclipse, Clapton

an exellent pub, a vast improvement from whatever was there before..
