Crown Inn, Westcott

And the legal dispute has stopped the car park (clearly visible from the A25) being cleaned up, for years ?

Crown Inn, Westcott

Well done MIA........you very accurately have ALL the characteristics set out in the last post !

The Red Lion, Godalming

It is'nt Rosie's fault that she thinks the pub is her house/playground. As dogs go, she is fine - but totally out of place in a pub, bearing in mind her energy and size. Previous posters (the regular BITE ones !) seem to concur on this somewhat obvious point.

The Sun, Redhill

Good pub with good beer - simply the best value in East Surrey @ 99p a pint ! Food is cheap also and The Sun is undoubtedly the best pub in Redhill. The others - a sad lot - can't match the JDW buying power.

My information is (true, I believe) that this pub exceeds 60k a week, in takings ! They must be doing something right...

The White Hart, Dorking

An old style boozer just off Dorking High Street - opposite the Post Office. Rolls, newspapers, free internet access, a fine pool table and Andy - the friendly and helpful governor. The racing is on TV with a betting shop closeby. Probably the most popular/no frills pub in Dorking. In fact, a little cosy gem - with ample parking just a few yards up the historic Dene Street.

The Bulls Head, Reigate

The two young barmaids have improved - as has the pub overall. My only gripe now is the smokers who often block the entrance/exit from the High Street; they have to be dodged on the way in and out and should in the adjacent alleyway.

The Crown and Sceptre, South Croydon

Ole slerpy continues his PR role for this mediocre pub. One wonders why ? Perhaps the promise of getting unbarred ?!

The Blue Boar, Poole

As a very frequent visitor to Poole - and its pubs - I would confirm that originalbigB's comments are accurate about the Blue Boar's staff and their habits. It is noteworthy that Nurke - a seemingly interested party - makes no denial.

The Market Hotel, Reigate

This place continues to die from lack of interest and bad management. On Saturday night, the massive upstairs bar was closed, as it is during the week. What a waste !

The Market Hotel, Reigate

market..don't understand your first question. To the second - I think I type for all in saying 'I hope you're not !'

One hardworking Polish barman on after work yesterday; he couldn't cope. Have Market Taverns been on to you, market, about your less than bright/disparaging comments about them and their flagship ? They have been made aware.

no seriously - ha ha ha ha; the mantra of 'two degrees'..........

Crown Inn, Westcott

Too right left!! That woman raph - not only does a disservice to the two remaining Westcott pubs, but also to mankind. She actually thinks she has a more interesting life than others; no wonder I saw 'men in white coats' outside The Crown recently. Oh lordy. Init.

The Market Hotel, Reigate

no seriously...backtracking don't work m8; easy to say 'I don't work there' - after telling us otherwise. I waited - at 6pm - for a pint; the very pleasant and bright Polish lady took 5 mins. GO

The Market Hotel, Reigate

Market manager says pubs should be grimey ?! Is this guy for real ? Food is served in this pub - but I think I'll give the place a miss when next in Reigate.

The Blue Anchor, Reigate

Yes Leftfield - that blond barmaid also has a laugh/voice like a foghorn. And, not very industrious; always at the end of the bar reading the Beano (?).

25 Nov 2008 10:04

The Falkland Arms, Dorking

I'm told that this pub has recently changed management - and that Barney (?) and family have moved on. It had become very quiet and I hope it improves.

The Priory, Reigate

Good for lunch and football (numerous plasma screens) - with a bright conservatory area at the rear. The governor had a highly successful personality bypass, but the other staff are cheerful, efficient and friendly. Overall, one of Reigate's better offerings with deals and happy hours - recently refurbished.

18 Nov 2008 19:35

The Red Cross Inn, Reigate

Went into the Red Cross about 6pm the other day........not a person in there. Not even a barman !

5 Nov 2008 11:58

The Black Horse, Reigate

New management and chefs - providing excellent fare. Rumour has it that the rise of the Black Horse is the reason for the Skimmington Castle's closure.

The Red Cross Inn, Reigate

See what you mean - simwilliams - about the barman on his laptop. No wonder the place is empty; maybe somone should tell the barman to visit this site to see what people think of the place - although the real fault is with the management, or lack of it.

17 Oct 2008 11:45

The Angel, Reigate

I work in Esure in Reigate and, when people were asked where the company Christmas party should be, all 74 people said The Angel. In fact, we were lucky to get in to this Surrey oasis where the food is legendary.

16 Oct 2008 12:55

The Bulls Head, Reigate

The new manager (Bernie, I think) is putting in the effort - with food, sport and all; she's even doing Christmas Day lunch. As a result, the place is busier; however, the bar staff (a couple of pleasant young/inexperienced girls) needs needs strengthening - as people are now having to wait at the bar. A gem compared to the nearby Cross and Anchor.

16 Oct 2008 12:33

The Tower, Redhill

Went in recently by the front door, unfortunately. Lucky to get out by the side one. Is there any place as bad - Nags Head, Peckham ?

16 Oct 2008 00:05

The Crown and Sceptre, South Croydon

Slerpy seems to be the PR man for the Crown and Septre - never a single negative thought in 6 posts over the past six months !

'great gueast beer'...'quality food is the best value in Croydon'...etc.

Would the fact that ole Slerp is barred from many Croydon pubs have anything to do with his undying praise - in the hope that his frequent visits to the C&S can continue ?

13 Oct 2008 11:14

The Market Hotel, Reigate

15 posts in 30 months. Only one positive. Why is this place so bad ?

11 Oct 2008 13:58

The Blue Anchor, Reigate

With one of the finest beer gardens in East Surrey, overlooking Priory Park cricket club, this pub has the most potential in Reigate; it has a good location on West Street and has reasonable decor.

Apart from that, nothing good can be added. The staff have a great time laughing and joking - or on their PC's. Because.....the landlord is hardly ever there.

Food and beer are average - the staff are a lot less than that. New management and staff please.

10 Oct 2008 12:19

The Red Lion Hotel, Wendover

Great progress due to a big effort. These 'dog chaps' will be asking for a smoking area for their mutts next ! Ignore them and continue to concentrate on the priorities.

10 Oct 2008 10:37

The Panther Inn, Reigate

In 4.5 years, the Panther has had 5 posts - as its an unexceptional back street boozer. Has significant potential because of location, beer garden and reasonable beer. A distinct lack of ambition - and a willingness to cater for just the same crowd every day (with NO desire to grow/expand) - makes for a quite future.
