White Lion, Marsworth

Update 2018. White Lion pub has secured planning consent again for change of use to convert the building into two three bed dwellings. Carpark application again refused but may be approved once the pub is converted. Watch this space.

2017 update - still listed as a pub! Planning permission to convert has lapsed. Planning application to build six houses in the car part has been refused. Anyone want to buy?

Update 2016 - this building was sold to a private local resident who has yet to start work on redevelopment. Council monitoring as it is now an eyesore and will soon become unsafe.

Update - planning permission granted to convert pub into a 3 bed and a 2 bed dwelling. wish they'd get on with it. the place is an eyesore. Presumably they will now get permission to build on the car park too. Nice homes for some people.

This Brewery is advertising the lease for 25k a year! It looks derelict. When are they going to spend some money on it? The windows are shocking and they didn't even put any flowers in the boxes to make it look invitiing. An absolute eyesore. Someone please buy this beautiful building from the Brewery and bring it back to life for the sake of Marsworth. Wish I could afford it.

Best of the three in Marsworth unless you want a wide selection of good home cooked food. Kitchen very limited and not promoted enough. If this could improve it might stear me away from the local competition altogether.

In the last 10-12 years we have seen a steady decline in this once thriving country pub. The latest leaseholders (who, incidentally, also own the Anglers Retreat) have finally killed it off good and proper. This is a disgrace - the Brewery has neglected it for years and its rival, the Anglers, was allowed to close it down.
