The Cleveland Arms, Bayswater

Not quite sure about the makeover; the intention is good and I like the way that they've stripped it out but they haven't quite found their new identity yet. If a bar like this was in Milan or Paris it would be heaving as there's nowhere else decent for the well heeled folk from Cleveland Square to retire after a long day counting their roubles

Abbots Mitre, Chilbolton

Bit ordinary given the location in the middle of nice Hamshire village

The Star Inn, Stanton St John

The Star has been closed for six months now as the landlords (New College) wait for the lease to expire. It's said in the village that they are hoping to be able to sell the place off and redevelop it as housing which would be a shame given that The Star has been a pub for over 400 years. The former landlord Michael had a good regime, cheap, well prepared pub grub, and it had the support of the village, so a second pub in Stanton St John can work. Everyone goes to the Abingdon Arms in Beckley now instead.

Talkhouse, Stanton St John

The new owners are well intentioned but the food is too expensive and not good enough. This pub used to be great under the previous landlord and it should be a lot better. Other pubs nearby like this are rammed so Fullers are daft not to put a better landlord in here

The City Barge, Chiswick

They have demolished the old inside bar where THE BEATLES did their filming and replaced it with the worst type of fake old furnishings and cheap repro knick knacks. Madness. The tiled floor, old fireplaces and brickwork have been torn out. The CITY BARGE now looks like a service station on the M6. I hate this type of casual vandalism. Someone should tell the Greene King shareholders that their pub group is screwing things up badly.
