The George, Wanstead

Oh dear. Calling all chavs, your kind seem to gather here and drink piss-water (or 'Beer' as it is labelled on the girly bottles). As long as we can round them up in one place, they won't spread. If we all group together here people, we can fight this horrible disease that is misusing the sacred institution of the proper British Pub and cull the lot of them. They seem to gather here, so avoid and either go further into the East End or out to Essex. Nowhere in-between is acceptable.

The Hung, Drawn and Quartered, Tower Hill

Very Nice. Good atmosphere, friendly and efficient staff, space to sit if you avoid the 'city' hours (1:30-2:30, 5-6). Working at the Tower, this is a nice place to have at your doorstep. Long live the HD&Q.

The Cove, Covent Garden

I first came here in the summer of 2006. It was a nice pub, where you could have a good chat with friends and the service was perfectly fine. Since then, I presume the ownership has changed hands. It now plays crap music at the highest volume, which means you'll be lucky to have a conversation with yourself let alone anyone else. Above all, the service here is absoulutely ridiculous. You will no doubt find yourself standing at the bar for 4 or 5 minutes whilst the bar staff chat amongst themselves. A terrible waste of a fantastic location. There are several beter pubs in the area, go somewhere else.

Ye Old Mitre, Holborn

A fantastic place, a pub full of character in an area of London that has sadly become overtaken by dull lifeless bars and horrible chain pubs. The only thing it lacks is space, undoubtedly due to its popularity. I'm half tempted to give this pub a bad rating to deter people, as I've got enough trouble getting somewhere to sit here as it is. As long as Ye Old Mitre exists, proper 'London pub tradition' exists.

The Lazy Trout, Meerbrook

A true classic country pub. Open fire, good range of beers and friendly, welcoming staff. The best thing though, is the food. Slightly on the expensive side but worth every penny and more. If I'm ever in the area again this will be my first (and last) point of call

The Bell Inn, Nottingham

fantastic old style pub that makes all the other poser pubs in the immediate vicinity look abysmal in comparison. Good range of house and guest ales, layout gives it character and they had a cracking folk rock band on the other night. Nice staff too - very highly recommended.

The Blue Posts, Soho

I do offer my sincerest apologies, I was talking about the Blue Posts just off Carnaby Street. Go there, its lovely.

The Blue Posts, Soho

They have a few seats (stools) by the window on the right hand side of the bar, next to the entrance thats leads to the toilets. Lovely spot - saw a guy with one arm, yet managed to light a cigarette whilst eating a sandwich. And I'm 5'11.

The Bank of Friendship, Highbury

Known amongst some Arsenal fans as 'The Bank of Grandads' which gives you an indication as to the average age of customer. Don't let that put you off, its still better than the Gunners for a pre-game drink - always seem to be served quickly. Make sure to drink the first 1/4 of your pint pretty quickly, because the size of the place means it'll get spilt when you're bumped into otherwise. Should empty out a bit with the new stadium - Drayton Arms will be an away fans pub no more.

The Ropewalk, Nottingham

Too 'studenty' before refurbishment, but nice decor now - good music, but way way too expensive. Some different beers make it worth a visit, but your wallet will mean its a short one.

Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, Nottingham

The History of this pub precedes it, its claims to be the oldest pub in Britain are disputed (by others in Nottingham and elsewhere) and it can get a little crowded on weekends due to its fame. However, the character of this place, both inside and out, is brilliant. The ring on the horn game is a laugh to watch (don't sit underneath it in the day) and the caves get better to examine the more pints are consumed. If you go in the daytime, when its relatviely empty, it really is a cracking drink.

The Moon and Stars, Penge

Given that its a Wetherspoons and its on Penge High Street the odds of this pub being better than being poked in the eyes with a sharp stick are slim. The decor is ok, and they have a nice selection of beers - but dont expect alot. Crap staff.

The Princess Alice, Forest Gate

Used to be a nice pub, then a yardie pub with prostitutes in the phoneboxes outside, now a dive of a bar.

The Pit and Pendulum, Nottingham

Brilliant pub - probably the only theme pub I'd happily go to. Nice staff and friendly atmosphere make it very easy to turn 1 drink into 4. Little bit expensive, and they do sometimes have a toilet attendent (sorry, but I can wash my hands without paying someone to hand me some soap), but otherwise a great place.

The Blue Posts, Soho

Cracking pub - with the recent trend of chain and theme pubs killing proper pubs its so refreshing to find a traditional little corner pub in the streets of central London. Limited selection of beers, but don't let that put you off a little bit of people watching by the window with a cheeky pint in the afternoon.

The Rose And Crown, Nottingham

Cheap beer, good atmosphere - 2 giant screens downstairs for football, but gets absolutely rammed for big games. Nice staff, studenty clientelle.

White Hart, Lenton

Wouldn't recommend it in the evening, just pretty average. Nice for a pint or two in the daytime though, good staff.

The Grove, Nottingham

Nice pub, packed on weekends - typical of the area in that its very studenty. Cheap food, although other places have cheaper beer. Takes ages to get served though.
