Watermans Arms, Totnes

Recently refurbished with a real log fire and superb jukebox, this welcoming local has Dartmoor Jail Ale and Hunter's Best served direct from cask, and at least one guest ale on handpump. An excellent and unusual selection of spirits complements the imaginative range, and even the keg products on offer - Dortmund lager, for example - add a touch of distinction. Highly recommended.

The Cherub Inn, Dartmouth

**UPDATE** The Cherub will be hosting a mini beer festival between July 1st & 13th, featuring local ales from the St Austell range, Skinners, Otter, South Hams Brewery and Blue Monkey with live music on the evening of 13th. Highly recommended!

The Cherub Inn, Dartmouth

The last couple of years have seen The Cherub gradually regain its deserved place among Dartmouth's hostelries. An excellent range of beers includes (on handpump) Ale, Best, and Bright from the Otter Brewery; St. Austell's Proper Job, HSD and Tribute; and from polypins on the bar, recent guest ales have included Skinner'sPorthleven, Betty Stogs and Heligan Honey. Press Gang rough cider from Skinners has also been a recent visitor, and even the keg cider and lager are from smaller outlets in Devon and Cornwall. Offerings from the kitchen continue to delight locals and tourists alike, and I have never experienced anything less than a warm and friendly welcome here. Thoroughly recommended.

The Dartmouth Inn, Totnes

This splendiferous palace of delights continues to go from strength to strength. Ales direct from cask have recently included Sharp's Doombar, Dartmoor Jail Ale, Exmoor Gold, St. Austell Proper Job & Tribute, Greene King IPA, Wells Bombardier, Young's Special & Winter Warmer, Tim Taylor's Landlord, Otter Ale, Flower's IPA and Black Sheep Ale. Weston's Old Rosie cider is also served straight from cask with the option of a chilled pint from a jug in the fridge. Superb food is available for all (not only the morris dancers, joggers, orange rollers and leaping maniacs of all shapes and sizes who regularly inhabit the warm and welcoming Function Room upstairs) and includes daily roasts-for-a-fiver, fish 'n' chips, all day breakfasts etc. Great value & excellent quality. Rob, Kate and family are long established here in the South Hams and have gained many loyal customers over the years. Personal service with a smile - the opposite end of the spectrum from so many sad corporate outlets. As for the outrageous jukebox ... well, all life is here!

The Dartmouth Inn, Totnes

Superb range of ales and ciders served from cask in excellent condition. Recent tastings include St Austell's Proper Job and Coaster, Dartmoor Jail, Sharp's Doombar, Thatcher's Traditional and Weston's Old Rosie. Daily carvery is first rate. Always a friendly welcome, and an attractive seating area outside at a fair distance from passing traffic.

Dan McKays, Troon

Great wee howff ! Excellent ales changing with the wind. Last visit, Wild Cat and Speckly with much banging from the distant cellar heralding variety to come. Warm, friendly folk... and superb food for the cowardly. Splendid topshelf too. And a garden. The lame seagull has now left, but curiosities remain in sheltered corners.
