The Spread Eagle, Ipswich

Great pub. Superb music. Usually have 3 or 4 ales on handpump. Great landlady.

The Smock, Ipswich

Modern pub in a large but respectable council estate away from the town centre. No real ale. Friendly staff. Very much a locals pub.

It is good to see this pub being well run again. The previous people almost destroyed it! It has had a makeover and is clean and smart and the new landord is trying hard. There are normally 4 ales on handpump and I have not had anything other than a great pint. A tap room is planned. This is one of the best music pubs in town and deserves support - use it or use it.

The Grinning Rat, Ipswich

I last commented on this pub in 2006! It is still a great music pub, especially for Sunday afternoon gigs and now there is a smoking ban I can go home not smelling like an old ashtray! All the smokers gather outside in a large covered area which even has a wood burner in winter. The beer is always good (Adnams and Woodfordes) and there is always a friendly welcome from Claire and Trevor.

The Dove, Ipswich

If you think this pub is good now just wait till they have opened the microbrewery! They bought the premises next door last week.

I agree with the previous comments. Very good staff and the beer is always good. Seem to have a very loyal clientele. Regular music. The only downside is that it really is a smoker's pub - everybody smokes and you leave smelling like an old ashtray.

The Railway, Ipswich

The Railway has had a lick of paint and looks much smarter inside. I have always found the Adnams to be good so the previous reviewer may just have been unlucky. I have heard tales of bands being sent packing by the landlord but I don't know the background to this so won't comment further. The main problem with this pub is that it just gets too smoke filled. It has air conditioning but I have never known it to be turned on.

The Dove, Ipswich

Without doubt the best pub in Ipswich. Great beer and friendly staff and clientele. CAMRA Regional Pub of the Year

The Mulberry Tree, Ipswich

This pub has changed hands. Ady and Karen have now moved to The Dove Street Inn. The range of beer at the Milestone is now limited - just 3 or 4 mainstream beers and the prices are higher. They still have regular music. They need support or Ipswich could lose a good music venue.
