The Inn on the Green, Hanwell

A nice, clean, friendly place, lacking a bit in character. However teh food is good. Beer adqequate but nothing to shriek about (lager more the tone of the day). Lots of oikish yelling at teh footie... which stinks. There is an OK outdoors area with a view of Hanwell Green. It is very nice in some respects but generally not as good as it could be, which is a shame.

The Fox, Hanwell

Great pub, very friendly and down at heel in a comfy sort of way. Beer garden lovely in summer, and usually a nice range of beers though the wine drinker isnt forgotten. Food typically chaotic - they havent got their serving sorted out yet - but shows signs of promise though most regulars tend to go for the pork scratchings. Excellent quiz night on thursdays for most of the year (not summer). Lots of regulars and somd through-traffic from the canals. Probably the best pub in the West Ealing to Hanwell area.

The Dove Inn, Hammersmith

Wonderful place. Stiff with history, the whole pub is a dark and comfy nook to retire to in the heat of summer, or the cold of winter. The welcome is always equally warm (although the staff seem to turn over awfully fast...!). Beer selection is usually pretty good with at least a couple of guest ales, and the food is EXCELLENT. Totally packed at boat race time, unsurprisingly, but otherwise usually nice and sophisticatedly humming with regulars. Look out for smallest bar in England ("the snug") and the plaque in the corner of the bar to a long-dead drinker who made that little nook his own for decades. There's even a list of the great and the good who have come through the place on the wall - and its easy to see why. Recommended.

The Jeremy Bentham, Bloomsbury

Nice place but so close to UCL and UCH it gets totally packed out. However in summer - it has outdoor seating - it can be delightful. Food adequate, but beer much better. Usually a couple of decentish ales. Wine list good.

Ye Old Mitre, Holborn

Superb pub. Good food, good beer, great decor, good wine, good service...but I dont want people to come and ruin it for discerning drinkers like myself....so in that case, stay away - nothing to see here - just 1070s formica and beer out of plastic cups...!

The Barley Mow, Mayfair

Excellent place. Good beer well kept, pretty quiet even at peak times. Food OK rather than meteoric! Football matters to these people - there is a display of match balls on the rear counter - but as long as you can foresee oikish soccer moron evenings, a good place for a cheery time! Quieter room upstairs as well.
