The Live and Let Live, West Kensington

makes a pleasant change to find a pub that doesnt pander to the normal office/posh crowd in this area. beer wasnt cheap but the atmosphere is relaxed and not full of people complaining about late food or nowhere to sit.

hey, i like 'rough' pubs :) this is the kind of pub that needs support otherwise we'll be left with cut-and-paste chain establishments offering the same drinks/food - variety is good.

The Albion, West Kensington

open fire = good. lack of bitter = poor. cost of a 1664 = excessive. I like the place, and its really handy for a lunchtime beverage but am surprised by the cost.

is this aligned with the Princess Victoria at all? I think I recognised one of the staff here from the Vic but as I'm such a quiet reserved individual didnt ask the question... ;)

any other nice pubs/restaurants around here?

The Cumberland Arms, West Kensington

Went for pre-Christmas drinks and food here. Quite austire, definitely not a pub to go to for a pint as it seems much happier catering for eaters vs drinkers. the wine and beer was nice if a little expensive, but besides your drinking companions there is no culture/entertainment/fun to be had. better pubs for a pint nearby though the food here is probably better than anywhere else local (inc tesco metro...)...

The Beaconsfield, Kensington

Another quick pitstop for lunch, the staff were nice but some of the clientelle were a little rough. Might depend on the day and whatever's happening at Olympia as earlier in the week this place was quiet and refined.

Food looked ok and beer was slightly cheaper than some other outlets in the area. Music/MTV playing but wasn't too intrusive.

Methinks this might compete with the Albion as my local of choice...

The Old Parrs Head, Kensington

I popped in for a cheeky beer at lunchtime and it was a) relaxed, b) friendly and c) 'safe'. Having visited the Fox and Hounds (43 Blythe Rd, W14 0HR) en route I got a heady rush of happiness at this place. Food looked good (I didnt sample) and the staff and general atmosphere was pleasant and worthy of a return visit.
