The Salisbury, Leicester Square

Worth a visit just for the saloon-y decor. Stunning. Does get rammed though so go on a weekday if you can...

The Chesham Arms, Homerton

If you're after a quiet drink, this is the place for it - there is never anyone in there, bar the staff, two yappy dogs and three locals! (How they stay in business is anyone's guess.) But it's friendly, cheap and they have Magic TV on in the background so you can sing a long to La Isla Bonita.

The Hackney Central, Hackney

Hackney Central has done really well in providing a venue that Hackneyites in their manifold forms actually want to go to. Drink prices take the p*ss a bit, but with no competition for several miles, it's kind of fair enough. Open late just for boozing on weekends. Wicked Sunday lunch menu too.

The Eclipse, Clapton

Interesting, cosy decor. Hoegaarden. Fab juke box. Yay.

Number 22, Herne Hill

Worth travelling a bit out of the way for. Excellent wine list and food, especially the Sunday lunch. Although probably best to book in advance as there's only seating for about 25 people...
