The Punch and Judy, Tonbridge

My current favourite Tonbridge pub, the P&J is is an excellent traditional public house with a good range of beers. Live acoustic music Tuesdays 9-11 and Sundays 6-8 provides an excellent opportunity to see a wide range of local talent. But it's a great place to go at any time.

The Foresters Arms, Tonbridge

I've visited this pub a few times recently and have been pleasantly surprised. The beer is excellent. The manager and other staff are very friendly. The pub is newly decorated in a style reminiscent, perhaps, of some smart Italian restaurants, but very comfortable.

The High Brooms Tavern, High Brooms

This pub is an absolute gem and worth visiting just to see the decor. High Brooms isn't exactly on everyone's route (unless you live there) but the pub is only a short distance from the railway station and the only surviving pub in High Brooms. The Morland Original is a good beer well kept. The acoustic music night is entertaining. There are also well-attended ukulele nights. If you like a pub with old-fashioned atmosphere, this is it.

The Anchor, Southwark

Fine old pub gutted and now in the style of any other mega bar. It shouldn't have been allowed. I went there last Sunday. My wife and I sat down with our ten-year-old grand-daughter only to be later bannished to some upstairs dining room. Absolutely no atmosphere. Ruined.

The Cardinals Error, Tonbridge

A quiet and very historical (as in mind-your-head) pub tucked away where you wouldn't expect it. The beers on offer when I went in the summer were real ale but low strength and not particularly exciting, but the general ambiance is excellent.

Founders Arms, Bankside

Nice location but totally impersonal pub with uninteresting food.

The Royal Oak, Borough

The pub is quiet and unspoilt and I've no complaint about the beer, but I wouldn't say that the evening staff are particularly friendly or welcoming.

But has the food improved to its earlier glory or is it still being ruined by over-cooking?

The Royal Oak, Borough

I first went there about a year ago - good ambiance, good beer and excellent and copious food. I returned this week. The ambiance and beer are as good as ever but the duck was unbelievably tough, probably because of being over-cooked. Someone on the table next to us needed a steak knife to cut into a shoulder of lamb which was so hardened it looked like a carapace! Total ruination of potentially good food!

The Man of Kent, Tonbridge

Traditional local. Children allowed only in the back bar which is a bit of a corridor and smokey, but the front bar by the fire is excellent. Let's hope it's never modernised...

The Slug and Lettuce, Tonbridge

Not much of a 'pub' but friendly staff and service.

The Station House, Tonbridge

I thought Friday night was the big night in Tonbridge for 18-25? Anyway, the Station House is OK for a quiet beer at other times.

The Ivy House, Tonbridge

A very traditional pub - stone floor, good ale. New and helpful manager.

The Humphrey Bean, Tonbridge

A bit of a factory, but like all Wetherspoon pubs it has good ale and it's cheap. Quite civilised. Nice garden, but awkward about children which is a pity.

The Castle Hotel, Tonbridge

Minimalist but pleasant atmosphere. Friendly staff.

The New Drum, Tonbridge

It's a bit like sitting in someone's lounge. Very personal, very civilized. Nothing wrong with that unless you want to hold a private conversation.
