Now I might be missing a point here. This used to be a nice pub with good atmosphere. However the owners have turned it into a dive, mis-match seating, poor decor, but increased prices making it one of the most expensive pubs in the area. The only real question is how they have managed to keep it open. Staff surly at best.

Reasonably priced drinks for the high street and late licence is a bonus. Food also quite good.

Cheap but not necessarily cheerful. Clientele can be a bit rough and children, on occasions, appear to have the run of the place. Fun game can be to try to identify which brat (sorry child) belongs to which parent. Staff usually appear more interested with who/what their getting up to at weekend/evening rather than serving those nuisance customers. Not always there fault as can not count how many times one of the poor sods has been left on there own whilst the bar is crowded. Doesn't help when they also have to take meal orders and make coffee's etc. Why is it I always seem to get behind the punter who has forgotten there table number etc. Anyway, if money is tight, this pub is not a bad option.

Dog friendly pub which is always a bonus. Indeed staff often go out of their way to make dogs feel welcome with various titbits etc. Regretably there is a hardcore of locals who regurlarly colonise the bar and woe betide the humble patron who tries to get passed them to buy a drink (If looks could kill!!). Anyway overall bar is clean and beer is of good quality.

The Lifeboat, Thornham
What can one say about the lifeboat. Good drink, good food, nice atmosphere and helpful staff. I was worried when new owners took over last year but, so far, they have not messed things up. Can only hope it keeps on that way. A great place to go and unwind - not to far from the smog of the big city - London.
