The Archery Tavern, Bayswater

Handy for Paddington and (as luck would have it) the Royal Lancaster Hotel. Arrived for a late nightcap to find a trad ambience and an agreeably raffish clientele. Enjoyed it lots.

The Goose and Granite, Kilburn

Spacious and comfortable, and you can buy beer. But it has no atmosphere whatever. A completely pointless experience.

The North London Tavern, Kilburn

As a pub, it's agreeably welcoming and the best place on the Kilburn High Road for a pint. Unlike the previous reviewer, I found the food pretty good, but the bill can really run away if you're not careful. Who ever would have thought we'd see the �100 night out for two in Kilburn?

The Black Lion, Kilburn

Rude and patronising barmen ruin the welcome at what should be Kilburn's grandest pub. Pricey, too. Step up the road to the North London Tavern to find how it should be done.
