The Hopbine, Cambridge

Added this pub to the St Radegund end of the King Street run on a Saturday lunchtime as we needed food and had seen it mentioned in the local CAMRA newsletter. Food was good and reasonably priced, staff were frieendly and the beers were pretty good too. In addition to GK IPA we sampled the Caledonian Old Sea Dog and Woodfordes Wherry, both well kept. There are plenty of Betty Boop items on display - we didn't ask why though! The pubby front bit is supplemented by a fairly large back room for music.

The Red Lion, Histon

beer drinkers paradise really - quality beers, loads of pump clips, cabinets full of interesting bottles and walls covered in breweriania. Burton Bridg Damson Porter in fine form. wish we'd had more time here!

Elm Tree, Cambridge

Ten beers - really nice Springhead was my choice but many others looked tempting. Advertises Hairy bar staff and sems to be a bit hippified which was just fine by me! we arrived mid powercut on saturday afternoon and there was a good crowd making their way through the ales on tap. Great boozer.

The St Radegund, Cambridge

Stop No 3 on the Sat lunchtime crawl. Lovely small pub with good selection of Milton Brewery beers and others -seem to remember about 8 pumps on but I may be one or two adrift. Fascinating decor with ceiling daubs and King St Run memorabilia and Vera Lynn pictures etc. Seemed friendly enough, barman recommended the sister pub - Devonshire Arms but we ran out of time this time around.

The Champion of the Thames, Cambridge

Second stop on our Saturday lunchtime crawl. GK pub with guest beers - we had a really nice pint of Okells Old Skipper. Great feel to this pub with nice snug seating built into the walls and low ceilings with dark wooden features. Plenty of interesting pictures to take the eye too. Friendly staff. can see why this has been a GBG pub for a long while....

The Bun Shop, Cambridge

First stop on a Saturday lunchtime crawl - fairly reasonable place to start a King St run. Excellent quality pint of Courage Directors...4 others, Hobgoblin, Pride and Spitfire I think. Pleasant enough, but without a wow factor to make us stay for longer than the one. Friendly bar staff. Tend to agree with previous reviewer really, good but somehow not quite great.

The Lord Nelson, Brighton

Decent pint of Harveys Armada when I called in. Seemed a bit quiet on a monday evening but would call in again when passing.

The Evening Star, Brighton

Fantastic ale house. Basic boozer with plenty of ales - Gadds Dark, Dark Star Sunburst, Milestone IPA and 1648 Declaration got ticked by me and there more....
No frills, just great ale!

The Basketmakers Arms, Brighton

Called in for a quick beer just before last orders and wished I'd found it earlier.
Gem of a pub, 6 ales on, The Gales Butser was in very good form. Loved the interior with the tobacco/cigar tins on the walls. Liked the idea of the Malt of the month as well.
Will call back next time I'm in town.

The Robin Hood, Stourbridge

The new gaffer has done well in improving the pub as it was beconming a bit run down as the years progressed. Always has Enville Ale & Ginger plus Bathams as well as 4 changing guests, usually including a stout/mild or something dark. Always in good condition even though it has been rather pricey at times but hasn't gone up in price as much as I'd anticipated recently.

Squeezing past the regulars in the passage to get to the loo gets a bit annoying at times as does the pervading smell of chip fat sometimes but the ambience is good and food is excellent.

Always worthwhile dropping in!

The Swan, Stourbridge

This is my adopted local. 3 ever changing guest ales, usually of a paler variety as that is what seems to go down well with the regulars here.

Great beer garden (if we get any sun!) friendly staff and locals and the new digital jukebox gets to play metal and smooth classics depending on who is in that night, and frequently all shades of the spectrum on any one night.

Doesn't ever get busy before 9pm except on a Friday when the weekly meat raffle attracts a few more in.

A genuine local with regulars who always welcome new faces.

The Wheatsheaf, Oakham

Joined friends in here for a quick pint on a sunday lunctime - just before chucking out time and found this to be a lovely quirky local boozer. The pub has an 'olde-worlde' feel and interesting posters from local theatrical society.

The Everards Sly Fox proved how good a 'ginger' beer can be. I think another 3 Everards ales were on as well.

Spent too short a time in here to get a real impression but was given a good first impression.

The Grainstore Brewery, Oakham

Visted on a flying visit on a sunday afternoon - the only decent pub in town that was open mid afternoon I think? The beer was certainly a bit pricey but quality was good.

A quirky sort of place - I'd agree with earlier comments. A brewery tap to visit but maybe not the sort of place that becomes your local.

1050/Cooking and Panther all in good condition on our visit.

Millstone Inn, Rutland

We visited here as it was the closest pub to our campsite and found it to be a very acceptable place. Friendly staff, lovely beer garden, friendly dogs and well kept Deuchars IPA and Mansfield Cask (Pedigree also on).

The food was very good value and well prepared - the Pork Wishbone Ash went down very well with our party!

The Otters Pocket, Stamford

Visited this pub on a saturday early afternoon and a sunday early evening - on a personal basis I found the big screen TV's taking a bit too much attention but the range of ales made the visits worthwhile. Archers IPA, Oakham Bishop's Farewell and Grainstore Osprey all in good condition.

The late licence and general ambience suggest that this pub may get livlier than when we visited but would go back again!

The Jolly Brewer, Stamford

Visited Stamford area on a camping trip and our taxi lift suggested this pub. Cracking suggestion! Buzzing atmosphere on a sunday evening, really friendly bar staff topping up pints without question and a choice of well kept ales. The treacle stout was enjoyed by the wife, the Oakham JHB was in top form and the Rutterkin got thumbs up from another of our party.
Is on our list for a return visit when we get to back to the area.
