The Tap and Spile, York

Decent pub with a good selection of beers and friendly staff.

Been a bit dead and atmosphere-less on my previous visits though.

The Brigadier Gerard, York

Beer is cheap but if your a lager drinker you have the choice of Alpine or....erm.....Alpine, which is a poor lager as well.

Darts and pool available and does a regular quiz.

Bar staff are very friendly and we ended up having a good session there, even though we were meant to move on after a quick pint or 2, and ended up dispelling the view they had that Southerners can't drink!

The Nag's Head, Heworth

Bit of a locals pub with mainly older pipe smoking blokes, but generally friendly and the beer is decent enough and reasonably priced.

Main bar is quite narrow so can be difficult to see the large screen if your stuck towards the back. Pretty average, but nice enough to go to for a quiet drink.

The Castle, Hadleigh

Bit of an atmosphere less pub at times as it seems to accomodate more for the people going for a leal in the resaurant.

All in all, pretty average. No need to avoid it but no real reason to want to go there.

The Rose and Crown, York

Good, friendly pub. Beers not particularly expensive (although not particularly cheap) and the food is excellent but can be a bit costly.

Shows all Sky and Prem Plus games on a big screen and is one of the better places in York to watch football, although it can get busy for the big matches.

The Black Lion, Plaistow

Nice friendly pub. Can get a bit cramped inside on matchdays but the large beer garden outside makes up for it, especially in the summer.

Bit like having a country pub in East London with a tower block next to it!
