The Foresters, Dartford

A wonderful, old school boozer, tucked away on a side street just off East Hill, which therefore keeps away the youthful punters otherwise drawn to Dartford Town centre's fleshpots. Everything you want from a boozer - pool table, dartboard, dukebox, and an open fire last time I was there. Oh, and the beer is pretty damn good too. In fact, I spent an entire Saturday evening on Courage Directors only recently, which was an absolute joy. Obvioulsy not so good on the Sunday morning though. Sky TV for all sports addicts, and even, my God, a Sunday meat raffle! Pubs do not get much better than this!

The Prince Albert, Bexleyheath

Great pub from a great brewery (Shep Neame) - usual array of Shepherd Neame staple fayre on offer, nice and roomy, and the famous "pots and pans" make for a lovely countrified atmosphere. Not much in the way of a garden - just some benches out the front overlokking a busy road, but that's not the landlord or breweries fault is it!?

Volunteer Public House, Bexleyheath

Smashing little drinker. Nice locals, good beers, only downside is they sometimes have a disco in there - anyone who has been in there will know it really isn't big enough or well laid out for that kind of thing! Otherwise - one to enjoy!

The Abbey Arms, Abbey Wood

Gets a 2 simply because it sells beer. Do not go in this pub. Ever. I was lucky to leave with my life, let alone my watch.... full of the dregs of humanity and sums up pretty much all that is wrong about Britain....

The Lord Kitchener, Welling

This is a pub that could and should be far better than it is. True, the carvery is only 3.50 on any day apart from Sunday, but the totally shambolic way this pub appears to be run, and the sheer ineptitude of the bar staff and management means that the only real reason you'd visit it is for a cheap roast dinner. For example, when in there a couple of Saturdays ago, the ice machine had broken and ther ewas no ice available..... OK, I can understand the ice machine breaking, but it's not as though there's not a Londis convenience store just across the road (and I mean just across the road) wher eyou could buy some. Other high-lights include being stared at by the more neanderthal locals when entering the pub (doubtless thinking that you must be "old Bill" as they've not seen you in there before - in their cosy little World no-one ever goes to pubs other than their local!), the unmistakeable pungency of cannabis being smoked in the garden, and our old friend who breezes in with a supermarket basket full of badly pirated DVDs (and bizarrely, bars of supermarket own brand chocolate that are more expensive than they would be in the supermarkets!).
One to avoid unless you are in dire need of a cheap roast dinner. I certainly wouldn't go in there to "people watch".... l
