The Hyde Tavern, Winchester

A good old pub, really nice Bowman bitter. Didn't eat as weren't serving at the time, but looked a nice cosy pub to get a traditional pub meal. Cooked by the Landlady no doubt. Will be visiting again. Foodybloke

Brigadier Gerard, Horton Heath

We popped in for a quick beer & pub lunch, and i have to say the beer was very nice and well kept. Service was good, although not all staff seemed happy to be there. Food was of a good standard and piping hot when it came. Quite an extensive menu as well. Worth a visit for a pub lunch. Foodybloke

The Fox and Hounds, Fair Oak

We have been trying out a lot of pubs in this area as we have just moved here from Dorset, and have found this web-site very valuable. We have found some real gems.
Unfortunately The Fox & Hounds is not one of them. My beer was off (End of Barrel apparently!) so was the next one, my wife's wine was warm and a bit vinegary. When i complained i was made to think it was my fault!! We should Have gone then, but were hungry and wanted to give them a chance to redeem themselves. I felt like we were being transported back to the nineties, microwaved, bland, tepid, flavorless. Come on guys, every other pub in the area offers great locally sourced food, not bought in rubbish. Even the dessert tasted bought in.
Will not be going back for sure. Cost 40 as well!!!! Poor

The Golden Lion, Winchester

Popped in several weeks ago, had a pleasant meal and a decent pint. Food was what you paid for and very honest. Staff were friendly, although a few more smiles wouldn't go a miss.
Overall very good, clean and traditional. will return.

The Bugle Inn, Twyford

Tried The Bugle for the first time this week, Very good beer from Bowman ales and my Fiancee especially enjoyed the food. Have tried to get in before but it was full, understand why now.
Have had some bad experiences in this area of winchester before, but i have to say, this is unique in it's quality and approach. Nothing was too much trouble and the chef changed the dishes to accommodate my partner who has a wheat allergy. But i suppose thats because it is privately owned and not part of brewery. Agree with all previous reviews, which is a first!! Will recommend to everyone.

The Phoenix Inn, Twyford

We had a bad experience at The Bridge in Shawford and were feeling quite disconcerted with the area. We had read the reviews about the Bugle and tried there but it was full and the staff recommended the Phoenix opposite.
We had a nice meal and good to see it was being updated, was a bit tired in places. All in all i was happy with food and drink. A good old school pub! and a lot better than the Bridge.

Bridge, Shawford

Great location, nice building, good views, pleasant walks - They are the only good things going for this pub. We had poor beer, appalling food, lazy service & a bad stomach all night.
Will not be returning, even if they do try to polish it up again.
I remember it was good several years ago, a real shame as would be a gold mine if the basics were good. i.e.; FOOD, BEER & SERVICE. It is a pub after all!!!
