Fountain, Walsall

The traditional exterior of the pub is in sharp contrast to the inside - which, err, is not. It might not be to your taste if you are averse to more than a little camouflage green. Must admit, it was a little disappointing at first, but I was truly won over by the fantastically well kept ale and the good atmosphere. There's obviously a lot of work gone in to the place after the fire damage - so full marks for re-opening.

The Black Country Arms, Walsall

Had a great pint of Brew XI! Dropped by Saturday afternoon and there was an easy atmosphere with shoppers dropping by for a swift one. Fantastic range of ales and the food as also good - worth the wait! Recommended

The Red Lion, Cotherstone

Great rotation of real ale with Jennings Cumberland as the default. Honest village pub which hasn't been mucked about with, long may it continue.

The Victoria Hotel, Leeds

One of Leeds' finest. Full of character and life with a good range of ale. Fantastic, could have quite happily stayed all day.

The Raby Arms Hotel, Barnard Castle

If you fancy a nice drink in pleasant surroundings then why not stay at home, lock yourself in the cupboard under the stairs and drink a pint of your own wee. A pub ruined and beyond redemption

The Garden Gate, Leeds

If this amazing pub was closer to the city it would be packed. A half hour walk along the drab A63 and through the equally drab 70's housing estate which surrounds it only makes the interior of the Garden Gate even more glorious and impressive. And it serves a decent pint of beer too! It deserves support so go out of your way and sample something really special.

The Adelphi, Leeds

This used to be one of my favourite pubs in Leeds but attempts to trend it up is detracting from its genuine Victorian charm - you can't take your eyes off the trendy lighting, funky wallpaper and how much lighter your wallet is. Of eight city centre pubs, the Adelphi's price for a standard pint (Timothy Taylor) proved the most expensive.
