The Angel, Oundle

Currently closed due to sale of building.

The Cross Keys Inn, Peterborough

A very peculiar layout, but then it is a heritage building. Very well presented, and occasionally host to a Saturday night Quiz. This usually means having to book a table in advance, but free hot nibbles are provided!

The Rose and Crown, Oundle

The present landlord Madhav has been there for just over a year, and he has done well with refurbishing the venue and seeking to make this a family pub. The "Free Jukebox" on Friday evening just brings the grungers out of the woodwork! Great homemade food is also on offer here.

The Angel, Oundle

Run by Wendy and Dave. A very pleasing low-beam pub which changes its beers and ales frequently. Tuesday hosts a quiz night which guarantees entertainment.

The Wishing Well, Hornsey

Now known as Funky Brownz and looking very upmarket. The drinks prices are hard to swallow, but I guess that ensures a different type of customer. Staff and management did not seem rude at all.

Mutley's Karaoke has started playing on Wednesdays from 9PM to midnight. I am guessing weekends involve a DJ churning out RnB - as is de rigeur these days!

A pricey venue, therefore a civilised venue.

The Prince Arthur, Tottenham Hale

For those who find pubs to be somewhat sterile these days, Mannions Prince Arthur will serve as an welcome change. This is a pub with proper charachter. Irish themed, the drinks are decently priced, and there is a good supply of older music on the jukebox, alongside the Now compilations and Irish albums.

Fridays now play host to a karaoke. A good choice of songs and a sizeable dancefloor. There is also a covered smoking area near to the toilets.

Absolutely nothing pretentious about this pub.

The Queens Head, Harringay

Further to Stoneye's comment of "djs playing crap that attracts all the druggies and riff raff". I DJ'd there in 2002/03 and I really did try to help that place!

Myself and the manager tried 'gentrifying' the venue by playing responsible music, in order to entice the real people in. Naturally, some punters whined like fcuking children, and the barstaff made the mistake of listening to them. They were great barstaff, but why did they feel this need to bring in their own CDs filled with foul-mouthed rap and garage, and seriously expect me to play it.

After seven months, they replaced me with the hopeless kid that I was brought in to replace! Back came the garage, the rap, the dancehall, and in came the hoodie scum and saw that place downhill once again. Such a waste.

I used to frequent the Tuesday karaoke hosted by Mutley. It was a great place, but they allowed the scum to ruin it.
