The Peacock, Tower Hill

I went to this place expecting the reviews to be incorrect; being in the trade myself, I find it hard to believe there is little wrong with any establishment. However, I have been proved wrong. Whilst I did not get to see the Landlord (on holiday), who people have said so much about, you get the feel from the customers and staff that he is just a natural publican.

I have not enjoyed a Pub so much for many years, it really was people of all ages, from all walks of like (suited and workers) rubbing shoulders together, really enjoying themselves and being well looked after. The staff are great, I wish I could find some as enthusiastic, and judging by what I seen that night, they love it so much they actually spend their evenings off there too.

It rightly deserves the score it has attained here and its entry in the Camra Good Beer Guide. Fantastic beer, fun staff and fantastic customers. Very highly recommended.

As an after thought, fix that gents loo! Well I had to find something wrong now didnt I.

The Lamb Tavern, Leadenhall Market

A splendid Wells and Youngs Pub in an outstanding setting. I am no fan of W&Y, and I dont really like the beer since the move, it was adequate. I only score it so highly as it is a fine piece of history. I wouldnt personally recommend it if you arent in the area.

Ship, Monument

It has taken sometime for me to decide what to write here, it is a very difficult one. Being in the Industry myself I can be very scathing when putting pen to paper.

To be honest, if this is the best the City has to offer, Ill take the first train out. The staff are worse than useless, the bar sticky, with no attempt to clean it seen and I had the worst pint of my recent visit in here. Moreover, I then had to debate with an Eastern European to get a refund, why these people choose to inform me, an Inn Keeper, of the fact ale is supposed to taste of vinegar is beyond me. I do hope I just caught it as a very bad time, if this is what people accept in the city, no wonder there was a financial crisis. It has low standards and fails to achieve them

The Swan, Bank

It is tiny, we stood outside, it is lovely, from what we could see and it does a good pint.

The Wine Library, Tower Hill

It's no more than a shop, what on earth is it doing on here anyway? Oh, and it is very over-priced, speaking as a man in the trade.

Square Mile Bar, Leadenhall

Really nothing to write home about, never mind write here!

It is a great pint, as many have said, the manageress is very nice indeed, though not in a good looking way! I drink on taste and it must be said it was fine. The rest of the Pub could do with a great deal of work though; sadly this is the case of many premises nowadays. The staff are fair to middling, you get what you pay for it is said, and I feel the owner doesnt exactly go overboard on the wages. There are however 2 main points which detract from a somewhat better score:

The place is without doubt in need of a major clean, from my swift peek behind the servery, they are lucky their Environmental Health office doesnt visit that often.

The main issue I have with this place, as I use BITE often to find a reasonable place when I am visiting is that churchtqy sings its raises a little too often for my liking and is obviously an owner manipulating the scores. Whoever they are will doubtless change their log-in and continue to do so, which is sad and I believe unnecessary. It is what is, a near Dowell that needs attention, with a good pint. You should put your efforts and money into attending to its failings rather than some pseudo politico campaign to tell everyone how good it I, as it really is not.
