The Stair Inn, Stair

Food good (mostly), real ale less so (not a fan of Houston beer) quality can vary. Staff friendly, some more efficient than others, especially when it comes to real ale. Atmosphere very good, locals friendly.

The Beltane Cafe Bar, Buxton

Now, sadly, shut down, a victim of the current economic climate. It will be sadly missed as there are not many oases of civilisation in Buxton.

The Brunswick, Swansea

Working in Swansea area. Found pub via Good Beer Guide. A long yomp from city centre for not a lot. Been twice, beer adequate at best on both occasions. Choice not great either, standards like 6x or (god help us) beer from the Cottage Brewery. Nothing special and not really worth the trek.

The Fortescue Inn, Salcombe

Food been going downhill for years. Used to eat there several times during fortnights holiday, this year ate there once. Quantity and quality down year on year, prices rise. Real ale kept well. Don't use lounge, too cramped, food orientated, full of rich yachting types devoid of manners.

The Fisherman's Arms, Plymouth

Have been using pub on/off for a number of years during visits to Plymouth, going back to pre refurb days. Now go in a few times a year on visits to daughter at Uni. Always had friendly welcome, only ever seen Landlord being chatty to locals and visitors alike. Eaten there several times, albeit only of pub snacks rather than restaurant type menu. All three real ales well kept. Food excellent quality, fish and chips superb. Only gripe, food and beer bit pricey but as standards for both high worth it.
