De Hems, Soho

This place is in the top ten? I don't think so. Not bad for the area but that isn't saying much. The beer is a pale imitation of well served Belgian beers it's nto cheap either, some lunchtimes the beer almost tastes recycled. Very full in the evenings as well. Food is utterly abysmal. 4/10

U Fleku, Prague

Ridiculously overpriced for the area, full of tourists, beer is good but not to the extent that the other cheaper bars in the area don't deliver better value for money. Go if you have to but then move on.

The Crown On The Bridge, Caversham

Neil Diamond, Neil Diamond, what is it with this pub and and Neil? It's an ok bar, perhaps a bit better than the norm for Caversham, somewhat overshadowed by the Griffen which makes it perfect for me as I can get a seat for a quiet beer when i'n on the north bank.

The Crown On The Bridge, Caversham

I like this pub, it's not fashionable, it doesn't try too hard, the beer is good, it's in the right place. It's a pub, a good one.

I do agree though, the bar staff *are* slightly sinister, friendly but sinister and the pub as a whole *is* subtly wrong. Give it a go.

The Blagrave Arms, Reading

Good pub, good place to drink, much much better than the plastic chain pubs around it. Real ales are kept well, if in too short a supply, and there is a decent selection of lagers etc.

Strangely the Gents toilet door is always broken.

The Battle Inn, Reading

Shockingly bad pub, claims to be the best Irish bar in town, which is one of the biggest lies in the history of pub advertising. Terrible beer, terrible decor and terrible regulars. The sooner this place is knocked down the better.

The Foresters Arms, Reading

Solid old boozer, proper old regulars, good beer, even smelled of beer like a proper pub. Result.

The RISC Global Cafe and Bar, Reading

Got even better after the recent mini refurb. Food is now mcuh better, nicely child friendly with an expanding range of beers and cocktails.

The Mayflower, Rotherhithe

This used to be a truely great pub, then in late 2003 it got a change of landlord. Now utter rubbish, terrible beer at astronomic prices. Didn't try the food, was too disheartened after one pint I left. A crying shame.

Pommelers Rest, Tower Bridge

Dire pub, smells of bleach and piss and not a great crowd. Beer is ok and cheap but has little else to offer.

The Bridge House, Tower Bridge

Strewth, hasn't this place improved! Good beer and very good food. About a million miles away from its previous life as a very dingy squalid pub. A wee bit gastropubesque for many tastes but I'll definately be going again.

Bradleys, Fitzrovia

Great lager selection, superb juke box, a wee gem of a pub. Gets very busy though so arrive early.

Sweeney and Todd, Reading

Fantastic pies (watch out for the shouty waitress if you have a hangover) and the best chips in Reading. Beer prices are a bit steep though as are the charges for soft drinks but the pies make up for it.

The Spread Eagle, Reading

Very good beer at very reasonable prices, large non-smoking lounge, trouble free if a little intimidating at first. Only downside is the pub food, which is far too "deep fry and microwave" stylee. With a tiny bit more effort on that front this would be a truely great pub. My new local.

The Retreat, Reading

Terrible beer, god alone knows how this pub got a top rating from CAMRA. Only time I've ever seen my Father-in-Law leave a pint was in here.

The Hop Leaf, Reading

Great pub, one of the best beer selections in Reading with interesting guest ales plus HoffBrau!
