The Court, Tottenham Court Road

My nearest pub while in halls. Always busy, and during term time pretty much dominated by students. If you have a 'Yellow Card' drinks are cheap for the area (starting at 2 for a Carlsberg and 1.50 shots), although there are Sam Smiths nearby in most directions which are better value, and less packed (The Fitzroy on Charlotte Street being a highlight). Cocktail night on Mondays is a laugh and the meal deals after 3pm are great value. The large signs on several of the walls warning of pick pockets should be heeded, two friends have had things lifted while drinking here; staff were great and ran through the CCTV with us both times.

As a student, a great local, not sure I'll still be drinking here 5 years down the line though.

The Capitol, Forest Hill

Fond memories of this place from my school days, this being the only place nearby that would serve us. Cavernous pub, lacking in atmosphere , but nice for a quiet pint during the day. Not enough staff on in busy times and even when it's quiet the staff sit behind the bar so the many, many tables can be strewn with plates and glasses at any time of day. Despite this, still the cheapest pint in the area and next to the station so I do find myself in here quite a lot.

INDO, Whitechapel

Great atmosphere, staff to remember and an interesting selection of drinks (if a little on the pricey side). Also open later than a lot of the other places in the area. Music is spot on and the service is very quick. Can get a little packed at times, but not really surprising for a place of the size. Somewhere I try to pop into whenever I'm the area.

The Green Man, Fitzrovia

Lovely find just down the road from my uni halls. Cider selection needs to be seen to be believed, although not the most varied in source (Mainly Westons, Brothers and another couple of other large cider brewers) there were more than 20 available by our last count. Staff can be a bit slow but seem to know what they're talking about (handy for those who may have only had the choice of Strongbow and Magners previously)and a friendly bunch so on balance almost worth the (often quite long) wait. Atmosphere is decidedly different from the norm around the area, a younger more Hoxton-like crowd apart from the inevitable post office crush. Good music and a decent amount of seating are also bonuses. Location is rather hidden, but worth nosing aroundfor if you're in the area.
