Looked closed (for refurbishment, I think) when I went past it earlier today.

Signs on the inside door say they're closed for refurbishment. No date given for reopening though.

Currently being refurbished, when reopened it'll be called The Wellsley (I think)

Just to clear something up -- 43217, bigbeerbelly was responding to a comment which we (the BITE admin) removed for being against our comments policy. I don't think anyone has a problem with what you said :-)

Love the jukebox downstairs, but could have done with the band coming on stage a little earlier than 10:30pm on Saturday night!

This place rivals the Fighting Cocks in Kingston for aggressive last orders enforcement. We went there last week and they rang the bell *five times*, first time at 2250, second at 2255 at which point they told us we had just 15 minutes to drink up.

Bit confused by the previous few comments - went in last night and found Ian and June still very much in charge, and as friendly as ever. The lessons in pouring Munchner Kindl weissbier from the bottle were much appreciated!

Went in here on Saturday 3rd July 2004 at around midday. Ordered two pints of Guinness, one of which came back with a Swastika drawn in the head. Very creepy to say the least. Not sure I'll be heading back there too soon.

They somehow managed to charge me 8.89 for 2 bottles of beer, which is arithmetically puzzling (not to mention hideously expensive).

Don't go thinking you can visit this while waiting for someone to arrive - it's airside!

The Leather Bottle, Wimbledon Chase
If they're going to refurbish it, they should return it to the glory of circa 1991-2.

The Teddington Arms, Teddington
Bit restauranty but you can't fault the beers on tab; Budvar and Pilsener Urqueil ahoy. Spotted some cheeky Belgians behind the bar too but was definitely in the mood for a lager rather than some cherry.

The Cornwall Hotel, Dorchester
No menacing gypsies to report; just two mightily cute dogs and a crowd of locals eagerly watching the horse racing on TV.

Despite evidence the contrary (staff serving pints to customers, people on the pool table, door being wide open, lights being on, music playing) this place was, according to the staff, shut at half ten last night, and therefore refused to serve us. Possibly the only pub I'll ever rate having never been there.

I'm convinced that the barman who served us yesterday used to work at The Mill in Kingston, and was a regular pool player at the Hog & Stump (now the Kingston Tup).

If someone were to compile a photo-essay entitled "Now Thats What I Call A Beer Garden!", this pub would get a chapter of its own. If essays have chapters, that is.

When we were there, a bloke who looked very much like Finchy from The Office was also there. He was as pissed as I have ever seen someone who hasn't passed out (yet) but amazingly was still holding his own in the darts. The barmaid wouldn't serve him a half pint at last orders (and had verbally slapped him down for swearing a few times already), yet mystifyingly she did actually serve him a whisky instead.

Is this pub shut for good now? There were certainly no signs of life when we tried to go there yesterday. :-/

We only spotted the pinball machine after we went inside, it was right at the back of the pub and if I remember correctly it was a Playboy machine.

A completely unconcealed CCTV camera points directly towards the urinals in the gents here. It is just above the paper towel dispenser, which has a sticker on it saying "Warning: concealed CCTV cameras are in operation".

The Hole In The Wall, Waterloo
Fantastic pub, if you ignore the front room. Back room has more lagers than you could shake a stick at and last time we were there at least 2 guests, including the 7% Hacker(?) which was borderline full-on wheat beer, and was utterly gorgeous. One of my favourite pubs for reasons I can't quite describe, probably the lack of natural daylight and the periodic rumblings of trains heading to & from Charing Cross station. And a pinball machine too. Love it.

Not impressed with the staff, in particular the bloke who wouldn't exchange more than 1 off pint of lager (at least that's what I thought) and when told about the pinball just said "OK" and went back to reading his paper, no offer of a refund or anything. That said the food was bloody lovely and it does sell Holsten Export...

The Hole In The Wall, Chiswick
Holsten Export on tap. Say no more. Never (not) heard such a deathly silence during a game of football as experienced yesterday during Arsenal vs Liverpool.

The Prince of Wales, Wimbledon
Seems to be closed for refurbishment.
