Coopers Arms, Reading

Three times I have been here, only once did they have any ale on tap. I don't know what's going on.

Royal Forresters Hotel, Ascot

Dirty, dirty, dirty pub. Whatever you touch you will stick to. Apart from the beer, which you shouldn't touch anyway.

The George Inn, Lacock

I love this pub. The beer is superb, the food is also. The staff are extremely friendly and the locals a delight to chat to. The building is a historic gem, especially the dog wheel.
My favourite time to visit is during the winter months when the fire is lit and tourists aren't so plentiful.

The Stag, Ascot

I did forget to mention, and it is only fair, that despite everything else, the staff were very polite and efficient.

Jagz Bar, Ascot

Visited Jagz for the first time today for a pint on my walk home from work. I think I may have been served by the member of staff already mentioned here. Not a word of greeting or even a half attempt at a smile. The worst pint I've ever had pulled was plonked down in front of me. Two whole inches short! I couldn't believe it, I assumed my glass was going to be topped up but no. Several members of staff walked back and forth but it soon became apparent that this was my lot. I had to ask and suffer a withering look for my troubles. We've all had a short measure but I've never seen anything like this before.
I did get a comfy chair with a good people watching position and the beer was drinkable but only just average. I've given it a 1 rating but only because I liked my chair.
What is it with pubs and bars in this town?

The Stag, Ascot

Hideous interior, all leopard print and fake marble. The beer is as bland as expected from this particular brewer (no names). I don't know if it was just the night I was there but I've never been so jostled, trodden on, barged into or irritated by shouting fools taking pictures on their phones as I was here. The barman looks like Jim Carrey.

The Old Hatchet, Winkfield Row

The best pub I've visited so far since moving here. Denis keeps an excellent cellar and is very knowledgable about the ales. It's a Fullers pub so all the usual suspects but all worth a try. only eaten here once, good food but this is where I always end up for a good pint.

The Alehouse, Reading

Always a great range of beers but the place always seems to stink to high heaven of b.o.

The Devonshire Arms, Camden

Yes, The Dev has been taken over by metallers but quite sensibly they have not made it a 'metal' pub. It's an 'alternative' pub. The goths have not been kicked out, they and everyone else are welcome. Whether they carry on frequenting it or go off in a huff at the loss of the goth exclusivity I don't know but if the latter then it's no loss. Speaking as a goffik type myself I think the place has really benefitted from the change. They've swept away all the crap decor, given it a lick of paint and even (gasp!), cleaned it. So much livelier and friendly now as well. I used to go to The Elephant's Head more as I preferred the friendly mix there and no cliquey scene. I'm certainly going to be going to The Dev more now.
You can even buy ale!!!
