The Sultan, South Wimbledon

I can only add to the praise for this fine ale-led pub. The 1.75 pint happy hour (7-9pm I think) on Wednesdays is worth travelling for. The Hopback ales are always very well kept and poured. I ordered a polypin of Summer Lightning for a BBQ last year and was very pleased with that too. The pub has a dartboard and the staff and locals are friendly. I remember having a great game of darts with some members of the ladies team a couple of years back. In short this is a great place for a quiet relaxing pint. Theres no piped music to disturb conversation. Have heard good things about their summer BBQs and mini beer festivals too.
Probably takes about 10 mins to walk from Colliers Wood tube but fairly easy to find.

The Market Porter, Borough

As per the reviews below I agree that this is a great pub. Certainly one of the best in the area. A good range of ales on offer including a mild and also Westons hand-pulled cider. It has a nice interior, although could do with some more seating at the back where it appears to have recently been extended. Didnt try the food this time but it has a reputation for quality and good value meals. A must visit pub if youre in the area.

The Southwark Tavern, London Bridge

I like this place. Its old features have been largely retained whilst the bar area has been sympathetically modernised. On m last visit they served an excellent pint of guest ale Caledonian Full Monty. The staff were very helpful. After asking the strength of the beer the barmaid went to find out then came and found me with the answer. Good potato wedges and olives too. My only complaint is with regards to the un-necessary DJ. No-one seemed bothered that he was there and although he was spinning some good tunes does a pub really need a DJ on a Thursday night?

The Old Kings Head, Borough

Popped in here last night for a quick pint. I was happy to find Harveys Sussex best on hand-pull but less than happy to find the dartboard out of action due to a quiz machine being placed in front of it. Too many London pubs have lost their dartboards, please put this one back into action! The Kings Head has the feel of a local and on a warm evening its quite pleasant to stand in the quiet cobbled alleyway next to the pub. They also show sport on a TV in the bar. Recommended.

The George, London Bridge

I think Tom Angel must have been having a bad day! I visited this pub last night and was relieved to find it hasnt changed much since my last visit about a year ago. Its a fantastic old building with a large outside seating area just right for an after work drink on a warm evening. They had 4 Greene King ales on and although the bar was crowded the service was fast and the staff polite. A pint of their George Ale was 2.80 which I dont think is unreasonable. The branded uniforms make the staff look smart and professional. I dont think a black shirt with a small Stella logo on the sleeve is anything to complain about. No sign of any security guards either

The Selkirk, Tooting

Tucked away on a side street of Tootings main drag this place has steadily improved since being converted from The Frog a couple of years ago. The new dcor is smart and modern. There are 2 rooms, a side snug room with comfy chairs, a conservatory and a fair sized beer garden. The drinks are a bit on the expensive side (2.80 for a pint of ale) but the food is excellent and the staff have been friendly and attentive during my visits. I recently whiled away a rainy Saturday afternoon playing bar billiards in here after a fantastic chicken pie. One good feature is two sets of toilets one in each bar so theres no need to walk to the other side of the pub to take a leak. It seems they are making an effort to cover all bases with various food offers, live music, quiz nights etc. If they maintain the good overall quality, this place should be a great local success once word of mouth gets around.

The Spirit Bar Cafe, Tooting

I have only been here at the weekends but have been impressed. It is a cosy 2 room bar which shows sport on plasma screens, serves a range of tap beers (Artois Bock, Hoegaarden, etc.) and also does decent food. I have not been disappointed. The 'bife ana' (steak sandwich in ciabatta) is my favourite and makes for a very filling lunch. The roast is great value at 5.95 and better than others served locally that cost 8 or 9 quid. The service is also excellent. Staff bring drinks to your table and enquire if you are ok. Recommended.

The Gorringe Park, Tooting

JohnBonser is spot on with his description of this great little local. It's the only pub I've been to in Tooting with a real community feel. The staff and locals are friendly and the ales well-kept. They have big screen sports and darts in the lively front bar whilst the back bar is more-laid back and suitable for a quiet(er) drink with the missus. Highly recommended.

The Dove Inn, Hammersmith

A fantastic pub and one I am happy to go out my way to visit when in Hammersmith. They always have a good selection of well-kept Fullers ales and the food is also very nice. I recommend the excellent lasagne. The place has that cosy traditional pub feel with a great real fire in the winter and a riverisde terrace for the summer which affords great views out across the Thames. I sat out here on bonfire night and I'm sure we had one of the best views of the fireworks in London.

The Victoria, Camden

I visited this pub last week for a bite to eat after reading the favourable comments on this site but unfortunately they only serve food at lunchtimes. The 1 cask ale (London Pride) had run out (as it had 6 months ago when I last came) but I cannot fault the place for it's ambience, cosiness and charm. The interior is really worth checking out - plenty of dark wood, copper-topped tables and subtle lighting and the staff are friendly. If they sort out the ale supply I'll be a regular visitor.

The Old Fire Station, Hammersmith

The conversion of the old fire station is sympathetic and some nice features have been retained such as the vehicle examination pit which has information on the Great Fire. The tiling, flooring and doors are also nicely preserved. The place is divided into the restaurent area at the back and pub at the front. There seems to be a lack of seating in the pub area - perhaps they are hoping to pack in more people standing when there is an event at the Palais next door. The beer range is impressive but on our first visit they had run out of every hand-pulled ale. On the second visit I tried a Thwaites but it was so poorly kept I couldn't drink it. At 3 a pint this must be some of the most expensive ale in London - and the worst! A pint of coke was 2.50. We intended to eat but didn't stay as they only baked potatoes and sandwiches which were overpriced. There are better and cheaper places to eat locally. In short the location and dcor are great but this place needs some better management to fulfill it's real potential. Hopefully these teething problems will be ironed out in time and the Old Fire Station will justify it's prices.
