The Montague Arms, New Cross

Excellent range of cask ales, friendly staff. And on my next visit a full on ale festival. All good.

The Rochester Castle, Stoke Newington

On a recent visit the staff (manager?) seemed to care about the quality of the ale. And about promoting ales from small independent breweries. Very friendly staff all round too. Unpretentious, well priced, and with interesting local characters.

The Tyburn, Marble Arch

This is just about the worst Wetherspoons I have been in. The choice of ale was terrible - just the awful Abbot and less than average Marston's Old Empire IPA available on hand pump during this, my first, visit.

The nachos that I ordered at the same time took more than half an hour to arrive at our table - despite it not being a cooked meal. It would have been quicker, not to mention way cheaper (and tastier) if I had gone round to Sainsburys and bought the ingredients myself.

I shall not be returning to this particular Wetherspoons in a hurry.
