The Labour Club (Red Shed), Wakefield

A throw back to the good old days not the music hall but the labour party of the 60's and 70's. Barman and locals very friendly although a bit Royston Vasey-ish. Beer spot on and extremely quaint surroundings. Considering you are entering a shed I found it surprisingly roomy bit like the Tardis really.
Go here just for the experience. You will not be disappointed.

The King's Head, Huddersfield

Can't really say much more than what as been written. This pub is OK but with a little imagination, effort and probably not too much capital investment it could be a gem. Would visit again but prefer the Head of Steam at t'other end of platform.

The Head of Steam, Huddersfield

Went here after already having had a few pints and wanted some food and we were not disappointed. The beer was in good form and the home made food, especially the burgers. which I am not usually a fan of, were superb and filling.
There on a Saturday evening so quite a lot of passing trade but all were really friendly, even the football fans watching the City v United semi final.
Would well recommend, either for some food or as part of a West Yorkshire Day Rover pub crawl.

The Grove Inn, Huddersfield

Probably one of the best pubs you will ever come across. A remarkable selection of real ales (18 when I went), plus loads or ciders and lagers on draught and an extensive selection of bottled beers and spirits.
The decoration is an eye opener! Wonder if the life-size paintings are of regulars? You will see what I mean when you go.
Brother-in-Law and I went by chance for a quick pint while the lady's were shopping. 2 hours and 6 pints later say no more. The lady's joined us eventually and they loved the place also.
All the beers were in top form. Glasses are oversized with a pint level so it is a true pint. No need to ask for topping-up.
The locals were friendly as were the bar staff. Got the impression it was managed with an iron fist and no harm in that.
This pub is 5 minutes from bus station and about 8 minutes from trains.
Get there for a truly remarkable experience.
